The Caravel model is known for its small size and ability to get into National Parks that larger Airstreams can"t. It is the follow up to the very successful and well loved Bambi, from which it is only distinguished by its slightly larger and more spacious interior (1 foot longer).
This specific Caravel was in the process of undergoing an extensive and meticulous restoration process for a private collection. The previous owner removed and replaced the subfloor with marine grade plywood, and finished installing luxury vinyl flooring. The inner aluminum paneling was removed, the outer aluminum was sealed from the inside, and new insulation was installed before the interior paneling was reinstalled.
The professional restorer working on the trailer was getting ready to finish installing the bathroom and begin on other interior components when the owner decided to sell his entire collection of over a dozen restored vintage trailers due to old age. The interior electrical was prepped for new outlets and other interior appliances but never completed.
The exterior is in excellent condition overall and was being prepped to be polished. For a 53 year old trailer it presents extremely well. As stated before, the owner was meticulous and intended to replace every external light fixture and had begun to do so. The lense caps are missing but can be found very cheap on Vintage Trailer Supply.
The exterior lights were rewired but some of the wiring is still loose and will need to be checked. The trailer does have turn signals and brake lights but the other exterior lights are not currently working, but are already wired up. The refrigerator vent cover and the furnace vent covers are missing and need replaced. We covered the holes with cardboard for safe transport. We are told the water heater is in working order. The retractable steps are missing and will need replaced.
Due to its very light weight of around 2,700 pounds, practically any vehicle with a towing package can pull it comfortably.
Overall, the body and underbelly are in excellent shape for the age of the camper. The wheels, tires, bearings and axle were replaced during the restoration process and present very well. It is ready to tow anywhere. This unit does also feature the unique curved Corning glass which is extremely desirable. All glass is in excellent shape. The frame is also in excellent shape.
Words can"t describe this trailer well enough, it really is an excellent candidate for restoration.
We did not test the onboard electric and associated appliances as they are not present and/or will need to be finished. Also, the plumbing systems will need to be hooked up but the original propane lines and water tank are intact. The hard work is already done on this trailer, and it"s ready for your customization!
We are also considering finishing the project ourselves, and will be working on finishing the exterior lighting next week if it doesn"t sell before that. If you click buy it now, we will finish wiring the exterior lights, as well as replace the light covers and needed vent covers. We can also send more pictures if needed.
