History to my knowledge: Bought in Utah in 83 by original owner and had it until 2011, when he sold it to an ROTC student who would take it up to ski in winters and also lived in Utah, then sold it to the owner before me (in Utah) in 2015 who added a solar panel mount, and rebuilt the clutch, only to take one trip down to st. George, with the occasional weekend trip/drive around town, before he started his family. He sold it to me in 2018, where I shipped it to Missouri to have it undercover and drove it around the neighborhood once a week. In December of 2019 I trailed it up to Canada where VIVID Vans professionally converted the air cooled van to a water cooled EJ25 from a 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport who’s timing belt had just been replaced, and then was rebuilt. After the conversion, drove down to Michigan with zero issues the whole 2,500+ miles, aside from getting a speeding ticket (85mph in 75). In Michigan, the van was kept in shop while I finished out the build: solar, custom welding, fine tuning, etc. I had an intermittent no start issue a few months later that prompted every sensor, ignition system, fuel delivery system, starter etc (see list) to be replaced only to find that it was a loose bulk head wire connection, that was professionally repaired by Eco Tech Automotive in Missouri. This van has been lovingly taken care of, invested in, and properly maintained. I have driven this van 6,000+ miles from highways to gnarly off road trails with the only issue being a cracked fuel line to the expansion tank, that was replaced within an hour of the rupture. Unheard of for most Vanagons. Been all through, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, British Colombia. Driven and slept comfortably in 9 degree weather and made passes at 12,000ft altitude in 97 degree heat fully loaded down with water, food, my personal carpentry tool boxes, 70 lbs of workout gear on top of climbing gear and another person. She’ll cruse at 65 all day and touch 75 when you need to pass the turtles. (Obviously can go faster, I just personally don’t push her too hard) This van is not just good in theory, this van is tried, true, and dialed in. It has some road rash, and dings that are worn with pride and protected every other month with a wax protection to preserve the patina. Original paint still intact and clearly visible undercarriage. One half dollar sized patch of surface rust, cumulative, across the whole van. The van, of course will come with the Bentley book, spare keys including for all accessory locks, and most importantly, a full file binder of EVERY lock, battery, radio head-unit, wiring diagram, any code it’s ever thrown in the past 2.5 years, notes—- the full inside out of the van in a file. I currently am living out of it as I have been for the past year or so. Everything works. Everything gets a bit dirty and is cleaned accordingly. This van has everything you need, and nothing you don’t. It has been dialed in and feels wrong to sell in any other state. For that reason, all tools, parts, shower, hammock, outdoor foldable chair, custom fit outdoor rug, 100ft black boon-docking 120 ac extension cord, fan, custom spice rack, all measured, fit, weighed and tested specially for the van, everything—- is included. When you get the keys in hand, you are READY TO GO. You’ll need to stop for gas, groceries and that’s IT, before heading anywhere in North America. I’m not in a huge rush as I’d like for her to go to a good home. I have an opportunity to buy some land out East and could use the capital to make things smoother. It kind of kills me to sell it (as everyone who’s sold one can relate) and is partly why I’m going on one more road trip in her, but for a good home and the right price, I will. I’m driving out down the west coast right now, and am willing to negotiate/work with buyer on delivery options. Will go as far west as Hawaii*, and as far East as Illinois, south as San Dieg, and North as Vancouver, BC before third party shipping. Maybe subject to local pick up, talk with me to work out details Asking price: $37,999 I have tried to put everything out there but there’s so much and I’m sure there are some questions left, so, please only if you’re serious, ask anything I may have forgotten.
