Vehicle description

We’re excited to have come across a 1967 VW Type 2 Split screen, split seat Camper Van. She runs and she’s super groovy to drive, and we know you’ll want to call her your own. We call her Daisey. As they say – you’re either on the bus, or off the bus, so get on! - come on slide on in here and take a head trip with me, let’s reminisce about your Summer of Love. Your girlfriend in the seat beside you, her hair blowing through the open window. Love Beads and a peace sign hang from your review mirror. Chakra flags decorate the sidewalls of the interior. The scent of Nag Chapa drifts up from the back. Your girl is wearing a long cotton skirt, a swimsuit top which peaks out under her macramé vest, her neck is hugged by a choker and her own love beads, a halo of yellow daisies above her. Tunes of Richie Havens, Motherless child trail behind you– as you trip with Daisy. You are free wheelin that day, in every way, your white muslin robe, a tie dye jacket, and fringe dangling from your hips. Your own long hair is held back by a leather braided headband, your eyes shielded by your rose-tinted shades. You are off to a better future, blowing in the wind behind you are more goodies of the day from Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Beatles, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Rolling Stones, Santana and so much more. This trip was a two-day trip for you. You may have been headed to Woodstock, or some other outdoor concert, or maybe even a protest over Nam. “Peace” and “Make love not war” were the Mantras of the day.
You had everything you needed in Daisy. A place to lay your head at night, a warm blanket to make love under, and a camp stove to cook on. Right on, Daisy! She carried with her a full moon, which made her even more outa sight. When you pull up to the campground at night, the smell of organics fill the air, new friends around the fire, bread is broken, words of your latest trips are shared, and the peace you are looking for is shared. Yes, Daisy experienced it all, you were the disrupters of the day, a counterculture generation, the flower children - Hippies. Your passion was about openness, freedom, enlightenment, self-expression, elevation, tolerance and alternatives to a middle-class society too full of restrictions and regime. Yes, the Hippie movement and Daisy, the VW Camper van go hand and hand. Kum-ba-ya. VW History This ‘Splittie’ is the original VW Transporter and the first generation of the VW Type 2 model line, introduced in 1950. Although it was launched as a Panel Van, the VW Type 2 quickly revealed its many uses to Baby boomers, who found it affordable, and reliable, and irresistible – the VW and conversions popups soon offered several configurations, eventually even camper options. The split windshield was made until 1967. The charm, magic, and nostalgia of the T2 Split has earned it a number of informal names over the years, including Splittie, Bulli, Bus, Samba, Barn Door, Westie and Camper. Background on Daisy’s Owner: Daisy (this VW Camper Bus) was owned by Mr. Davenport – It was discovered in the back of his garage, alongside his Bugatti Type 35B, and under a vintage Folbot kayak which hung from the rafters; On the back workbench were several VW books written by John Muir. You see, Mr. Davenport was a hippie at heart. He believed in love not war. Serving in the Middle East where people wore white robes and scarves on their heads, after Korean he stayed, and taught. He taught about expanding the mind, how to fix broken things, and how to build new things. He was a thinker, a builder and a lover of nature. He built clocks, furniture, cars, and his mind. In his Den, the place where he smoked, were floor to 12’ ceiling bookcases, lined with books on the universe, solar power, how to live on 5 acres, prune, cut, grow and design. He had books on society, where society went wrong, the systems of society, governance, how mankind evolved, how to fix mankind, how to make love, do yoga, Buddha, and the list goes on. Mr. Davenport embraced becoming enlightened, and expanding his mind, while he drank in the music of days gone by, enjoying his pristine collection of vinyl. This van, Daisy, was well-cared for. All Glass is undamaged, the camper seats and gear are in really good condition. I am told she has a dual port head motor of unknown displacement, exhaust headers, an external oil cooler and filter, and 12 volts electrical. She’s a walk-through cab from the back to the front seats, has her clock and radio. She’s got a little rust, and a few bumps and bruises from her travels. But she’s a keeper, definitely restorable. The possibilities are endless with Daisy! She could be your tiny home on wheels, your food stand, convert her to a houseboat, or simply have her be your mode of transportation. Her vibe is that of the Hippie generation, good energy, good spirit, our go with the flow girl. She is mellow yellow, and can bring a little sunshine to your life, so if you want somebody to love – pick Daisy! You can come get Daisy in Cedar Falls, IA. Buyer responsible for pick-up or shipping. We have clear title.
