Vehicle description
1975 Volkswagen Camper van in original orange plaid.
Very good mechanical condition and priced appropriately because needs some cosmetic exterior body work /paint on rusty spots.
History and condition supported by maintenance records from professional mechanics since I"ve owned the bus in 2003 includes some historical records from original/previous owner as well.
Well cared for, professionally maintained and gently driven by me, an adult and family man since 2003 . Family has aged so it"s time for me to hand off this vintage relic to the next enthusiastic happy camper.
I am assuming the new owner will want to do some exterior cosmetic work to bring the bus up to perfect condition therefore the listed price allows the new owner to budget improvements over time while still camping/ driving around the country.
Up graded to the largest and latest 1978 stock, properly rebuilt motor 2000cc. Now has about 7k miles on it. Its the most powerful , reliable version VW used in the Kombi/Transporter/Type 2 Bus, with hydraulic valves that are self adjusting. Working original fuel injection. It can actually make it up a hill with passengers in it or tow a small trailer, boat etc because it"s more powerful than earlier motors.
All mechanical parts are sound and many are new. Has maintenance history.
Has new brake booster, master cylinder, shoes on turned rotors. Important parts are in great shape with receipts and records.
The interior looks great decked out in original Westfalia orange plaid but the exterior body needs cosmetic work to fill/repair rust holes. This could be DIY by a skilled owner or professionally done.
Camper has some new aftermarket add on accessories such as shelf under dash and removable drink holder mounted where ash tray normally goes. A CB radio. A trailer hitch. The FM radio /tape deck needs repair.
Tires are good , have two spares, one on front/nose and in rear storage compartment. Jacks under bench seat. Has all the original Stock galley tables , captains tray, console bench with pillow etc. Wind shield wiper reservoir looses air pressure if not pumped up all the time so I use a squirt bottle instead of letting spare tire ho soft etc. The drivers side triangle window has a small bungee to stay open over 50MPH.
Have extra new spare parts such as full tail light assemblies, mirrors and detail items. Jack , shovel etc stored under bench seat . Originals still work so spares are backup .
The pop top tent is a recent hemp repop still like new and has better zippers and screens than the original.
The amazing original tricolor exterior room tent fits against the side of the camper and stores under the bench. There"s two children/pet trampoline sleeper to stretch across front seats.
Stove topped off with propane is in good order and fridge with charger works. The RV auxiliary battery should be replaced by you so that it"s under warranty in your name , or in my opinion simply removed because a modern portable refrigerator works much better anyway than stock . The working 1975 fridge works . Sink works fine . Set of orange Tupperware and vintage 1975 orange plastic service for field kitchen.
Have a new gasket for the front fiberglass roof section not yet installed . The original one is ugly but doesn"t leak. There are 3 repaired superficial pit/dings and a hairline crack in the original windshield. Tape on rubber to keep out leaks in major storm driving conditions.
The original curtains, orange, stored under the bench seat while the current sacrificial ones are taking a beating. A package of orange dye to rejuvenate beater set included. Original heavy duty mosquito nets for back lift door opening also. Custom bicycle rack on the nose mounted spare tire.
I will miss this Westy but no doubt she will have a great second wind with a new family of adventurers.
