DRIVEN BY ACTOR GENE HACKMAN This RX-7 was built by John Finger in 1980 using the Dave Kent GTU kit with the intention of running it in IMSA. He instead sold it to Doug Carmean and it began its racing career as the Red Roof Inn Sponsored IMSA GTU car at Mid Ohio in 1981. It had had a long career that ends in 89 we believe. It has had a long list of famous drivers and competed at at least 8 24hrs of Daytona, 8 12hrs of Sebring and almost every track IMSA held races on in the 80’s. The drivers list includes, Willy T Ribbs, John O Steen, Jim Truman, Walt Bohren, John Finger, Don Marsh, Kelly Marsh, David Finch, Whitney Ganz, John Lloyd. It was sold and used as a rental car of Dennis Chambers racing later on and continued in GTU up to at least 89. It has its original factory Fiberglas fenders, doors, hood, and spares as well as 2 factory wings. The car has been partially tube framed in addition to the original factory tub. I do not have a of the parts to bring it back to track worthy but can get a few things to bring it closer for ease of transport. The restoration began 20 years ago and stoped after the car was blasted and then painted gray and he body was primed. There are a few parts but not many. I can answer any questions you have and provide more photos. Car has no warranty and is bought as it sits as is where is with no returns.
