DRIVEN BY ACTOR GENE HACKMAN This RX-7 was built by John Finger into a tub and sold to Doug Carmean who bought the Dave Kent GTU kit and with Dave’s help built the car. It began its racing career as the Red Roof Inn Sponsored IMSA GTU car at Mid Ohio in 1981. It had had a long career that ends in 89 we believe. It has had a long list of famous drivers and competed at at least 7 24hrs of Daytona, 7 12hrs of Sebring and almost every track IMSA held races on in the 80’s. The drivers list includes, Willy T Ribbs, John O Steen, Jim Truman, Walt Bohren, John Finger, Don Marsh, Kelly Marsh, David Finch, Whitney Ganz, John Lloyd. It was sold and used as a rental car of Dennis Chambers racing later on and continued in GTU up to at least 89. It has an SCCA LOG BOOK from when it went into scca in 89 or so. It also has documentation from a previous owner. It has its original factory Fiberglas fenders, doors, hood, and spares as well as 2 factory wings. THERE ARE PARTS TO BUILD SOME OF THE CAR, but not everything. I can’t add all of the photos I have but will gladly email them. . The car has been partially tube framed in addition to the original factory tub. The restoration began 20 years ago and stoped after the car was blasted and then painted gray and he body was primed. I can answer any questions you have and provide more photos. Car has no warranty and is bought as it sits as is where is with no returns.
