Vehicle description
NO Engine Firewall Forward, Engine is not included in this auction.
1946 Cessna 140 N72208, Serial # 9381, manufactured 7/30/1946. This is a non flying Project that needs repairs. Does not include engine and prop. . . . The engine is listed on Ebay as a separate auction. This is a nice old plane that needs some repairs and love. The recent wing recover adds a lot of value to this project, the aft gearbox bulkhead repair is the most serious problem the aircraft has. . . . It made the four hour ferry flight to us this past week with no problems, flew well with with a minor right turn issue due to rigging.
Air Frame:
No door post cracks . . . . . . . . . This is a fairly original aircraft that still has the original cotton headliner and factory red paint trim, the black stripe is vinyl and added by the previous owner years ago. All logbooks back to the factory test flight. The fuselage, cowlings and tail surfaces have no hail damage. Very light small dent hail damage is visible on flaps and ailerons. There are a couple of dents and bends in the training edges of the flaps and ailerons. . . . . . . . . New Univair nose bowl and we have the original grilles to go back in. . . . . . .The wings were recovered with Poly Fiber STC in 2014 and are excellent, beautiful job. The fuselage is natural aluminum and the minor topical corrosion that was on the aircraft when we acquired it has been removed. Equipped with cleveland brakes and main gear tires are very good. Tail wheel is original and has a shimmy. Windshield and rear window glass is good but door windows are old and left side is cracked. There is no landing light in the left wing. Has navigation lights.
Interior/Avionics: Plane still has the original cotton headliner that is in bad shape, seats and carpet are not original and need to be replaced. Instrument panel needs cleanup but everything works. Equipped with King KT76A transponder that is ugly but works great, has no encoder. Com radio is a Ky97A, a two place intercom is in the panel.
Repairs Needed: Aft gearbox bulkhead has an old crack on the bottom left side that is 3 inches long and will require either a doubler or bulkhead replacement. Will need rigging adjustments, battery box clean up left door window replaced, door latches cleaned, lubricated and maybe repaired as they stick. Bad tail wheel shimmy. The front cowl is new but needs the original grilles installed which we have. The bare aluminum is being cleaned but needs polishing. Will need engine mount cleaned and painted and FWF installed.
