COVID NOTICE: As an essential business, we are open for you. In order to better serve our customers, we are offering free delivery of this unit up to 75 miles from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Additional miles will be charged at $2 a mile (only billed one way). We are also offering up to 3 months of free storage in the event that you want to purchase this unit and store it for a while. If you need to store it for more than 3 months, we charge $50 a month. - - - - Up for auction at no reserve is a vintage dual axle 1973 Airstream Sovereign International Land Yacht in restorable condition .
The Sovereign International Land Yacht model is known for its extremely spacious interior. It is distinguished from smaller models b y its very large and spacious rear bathroom with a full bath/shower combo, bedroom area, large kitchen, full fridge and spacious area in the front (which originally featured a large dinette which was removed).
With a total length of 31 feet, this Airstream would be great for boon docking and camping. Due to its relatively light weight of approximately 5,500 pounds, practically any newer truck with a towing package can pull it comfortably. It features a very rare onboard generator (untested) which would make boon docking especially easy once restored.
The exterior aluminum on this Airstream has its original patina and overall, it looks quite nice. There are minor scuffs, scrapes and dings, along with several dents (see the front quarter panels, and rear right corner) and some rock chips and dents around the lower aluminum frame paneling. The right rear tail light lense is damaged. On the passenger rear, the exterior battery box does not stay closed and is wired shut.
Some areas of the aluminum underbelly were removed and will need replaced. Two of the tires are brand new, but the other two should be replaced. All of the windows are original and the frame railings and fasteners are in great shape overall. The door handle is broken but is usable, but the handle itself will need replacement. Right rear jack does not work and is wired to the frame.
This Airstream features three moon windows in the living room area which are highly coveted in the longer Airstream models. This provides extra light in the cabin, which paired with the amount of windows makes it feel light and airy inside. It also features a painting of a lighthouse on the inside of the door which is a cool feature!
The interior is in need of cleaning and repair. In the kitchen there is an original sink, stove, oven and refrigerator (all untested). All of the original cabinets throughout seem to be intact and in decent shape. The floor seems solid in the middle and rear of the camper but will need replaced in the front (see pics). The frame appears to be solid and was stripped and recoated in the exposed areas by the previous owner. A new jack was installed this year.
We did not test the onboard electric and associated appliances. The 30 amp power cord is present but the plug end is not there (dragged when we were towing it back to the shop). Due to this we do not know the condition of the electrical. We were told it was in working condition by the previous owner.
Also, the plumbing systems will need to be gone through. The toilet is not attached in the rear bathroom. The rear tank is missing and will need replaced. The trailer comes with original hubcaps which really add to its curb appeal.
Being a 48 year old trailer, it is not perfect but it is in really great overall condition and is the ideal candidate for total restoration as an awesome, very spacious camper.
We do have this trailer listed locally and reserve the right to end the auction early in the event that it sells. Feel free to call Nathan at (260) 498-3415 and make an offer.
