Vehicle description
Video and 64+ high-resolution photos are available at https:/ www.abqsoft.com/temp/mga/ Hi. My name is Kris, and this is my 1958 MGA 1500. I"m her 4rd owner, and I bought her in 2006 when I lived in Ohio, and she is now with me in Albuquerque, NM. Here"s her quick history as I was told by her previous owner. She was purchased in 1958 by an American airman who was stationed in England, and he ordered the left-side drive model with the intent to import her to the US when we returned state-side. In the 1960"s she was purchased by her 2nd owner, who drove her across the country, and eventually rebuilt her in late 60"s, if I remember correctly. That"s when he painted her this Cadillac Red color. In the 80"s, she was put into the owner"s barn and she sat there until the early 2000"s when the 2nd owner"s son decided to get her running again. Her body was in very good condition, but there was some rust in the usual locations. He got her driving, but he never felt comfortable driving such a small car, so he decided to sell it in 2006. That"s when I bought her. She"s been running the entire time that I"ve owned her, and I"ve replaced some of the suspension, the entire braking system, repaired some rusted portions of the frame, replaced the battery tray, replaced the entire brake system, cut, installed new wood floorboards in the cockpit, replaced nearly all of the cooling system (including a new radiator and added a radiator shroud to make it more efficient), and a number of other odds and ends. A new starter and battery-to-starter electrical cables have just been replaced. The undercarriage and frame are in GREAT condition. Here are a few of the parts that I"m including with her: Two window frames A roof frame (the fabric can be purchased from Moss Motors, Victoria British, etc.) A carburetor tuning tool The heater system, which was removed by the last owner and I"ve never reinstalled. A box of other assorted parts. Here are the issues that know that she has: The emergency brake has been replaced, but seems just a tad too short so it"s not connected to the lever in the cockpit. A simple coupler and threaded rod would solve the problem. The speedometer cable is broken. I have a replacement and will include it if I don"t get it installed by the time the MG sells. The tachometer does not work, and I suspect that the cable is broken, but I"m not 100% confident. I do have a replacement cable and will include it with the MG. The bonnet left-side (driver"s side) hinge looks to sit about 1/16" lower than it should, which causes the back edge of the bonnet to rub against the body when the hood is raised or lowered. I didn"t catch this immediately when I installed the hinges last month, and the paint is old and a bit brittle, so it broke off a couple chips of paint along the hood and body. There are small spots of rust on the body, mainly where the trim piece is between the body panels. The interior carpet wasn"t designed quite right, so it"s very functional but not perfect. The floorboards and propeller shaft channel haven"t been bolted back to the frame. The passenger seat needs to be mounted to the floorboard. There is some scratched and scuffed paint here and there, and a couple of small dents. Serial #s: Body #: 52179 Engine #: The badge had been removed by the previous owner. Transmission #: I could not find the stamped number on the transmission. I was told that it would be by the transmission dip stick, but there are no markings there. As you can see, she is a beautiful MGA and she"s a lot of fun to work on and drive. I"m going to miss her, and I hope that you could provide a good home for her. (Note: For those of you who saw the previous listing for this vehicle, it is still available. The winning bidder did not follow through with the transaction. I"ve hired an agent in Albuquerque to help me complete the sale, so the pickup date can be arranged to fit your schedule.)
