Vehicle description
I am putting my 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup up for sale.
I have owned this truck for over 10 years and it"s time for it to go to a new owner.
Originally bought (123k miles on it) it to use around the house and move my small vintage mopeds, but has since been parked for the past 5 or so years when I bought a larger truck.
(I have included pics of the truck from when I first bought it)
It has the 1.6 CIS gas engine with a 4 speed transmission.
Currently reads 137k miles.
AC system is complete and in the truck; was working but will need a recharge.
I had the bed and tailgate of the truck professionally LineX coated when I first purchased the truck to protect it. The tailgate latch is finicky and takes some effort to open.
The interior is complete and in good condition.
Dashboard has 1 crack on it (pictured) and there is some sun fade and wear above the gauge cluster.
The vinyl seats are in ok shape with typical bolster wear on the driver side and then a split on the passenger bottom panel.
Ashtray has a broken metal tab.
The glass on the truck is in good condition except for a rock chip in the windshield.
It comes with an Alpine stereo, Eclipse dash speakers, and also rear speakers in the side panels.
Exterior has dents and dings (passenger side has more due to original owner) and there are a couple spots of rust near the windshield area with work from previous owner (pictured).
In addition, there are a couple spots of rust on the passenger floorboard (pictured).
Despite the rust in this location the floorboard is solid.
All in all it’s a relatively solid and complete A1 VW Pickup with NO rust to my knowledge in the typical locations (bed seams, B pillars, rocker panels, and front strut towers and frame rails). This was a big bonus for me when I originally purchased it.
Modifications to this truck include (off the top of my head):
2.25" exhaust from the exhaust manifold back.
14” BBS RF wheels (custom bored out to fit VW)
Added a small tachometer to see RPMs.
Stereo setup
MK2 Golf 4 spoke steering wheel
Raceland front coilovers
Black Forest Industries rear drop plates
Euro MK1 Golf front bumper with tinted lenses
Euro MK1 Golf GTI deep chin spoiler
Original NOS OEM VW Caddy tail lights (sourced from Slovenia)
Dual rear air shock setup for adjustable ride height (increase load carrying capacity) The truck runs and drives but would recommend a tune up and possibly the CIS to be adjusted. It has been sitting in my garage for the past 5 years and it is cold natured on first cold start up (Cold Start Injector?). Once the truck is warmed up, it starts up fine.
I have also rebuilt the shifter bushings but it will need adjustment to be 100% (will probably adjust it some more before the sale).
I did notice that the CV boots are torn, so that should be addressed in the future.
This vehicle will be sold with a signed Bill of Sale as Georgia does not require vehicles older than 1985 to be titled.
This is a 40 year old vehicle; while it is in good condition, it is not perfect. Please be realistic with your expectations.
This truck will be sold AS-IS with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied. SALE IS FINAL.
Buyer is responsible for the payment and arrangement of transport once the vehicle is purchased.
