Long and luxurious, Buick’s 1967 Electra 225 was another way to signal to the neighbors you were more than willing to keep up with them, even if their last name wasn’t Jones. This big cruiser is one of only 6,845 two-door hardtop Electra 225s made in 1967 and comes from the Omaha Nebraska area where this Buick has resided since new! Sold new at Rasmussen Buick in Council Bluffs, Iowa and is included with the original warranty book and Protect-O-Plate.
This example was made in Buick’s Flint, Michigan (VIN code H) assembly plant during the second week of February 1967. Finished in an appealing Ivory (code T), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order. The car’s bodywork, with the almost full-width taillamps, is straight looks stunning rolling down the road, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery looks good and the chrome bumpers are in great, original shape.
This Buick rolls on Dayton whitewalls, size 235/75R15 all around. Each tire is mounted to factory alloy wheels. All tires and wheels are in good, original order.
Under that big hood is Buick’s 430 CID V-8, which was new-for-1967. It has a four-barrel carburetor and 10.25:1 compression ratio. Backing this engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic and a 3.07:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include Soft-Ray tinted glass, power steering, power brakes, power windows, six-way power front seat, driver’s sideview remote mirror and tilt steering column.
Inside, the car’s Light Fawn vinyl interior (code 674) is in good, original condition. The front bench is split-folding, the neutral carpet and headliner, a slim, three-spoke steering wheel with tilt, inner door panels and dashboard are all in good, original order and the color balances the body color nicely. That dash has a sweeping ribbon speedometer from an era that relied more on idiot lights versus gauges and the ignition switch in the dash. The fuel gauge operates but fluctuates. Completing the interior is a column-mounted shifter and a factory AM radio. The car is included with a air-conditioning system but is not installed. Please see the trunk photos for more information.
A moderate facelift highlighted the 1967 Electra 225 including a Pontiac/Oldsmobile-like divided split grille. Both base and Custom models were continued with a new “Limited” option package available on Electra 225 Custom four-door hardtops reviving a nameplate that graced Buick’s ultra-luxury flagship in the late 1930s (and again in 1958), which included an ultra-luxurious interior trim. Under the hood a new 430 cubic-inch V-8 rated at 360 horsepower with four-barrel carburetor replaced the previous “Nailhead” 401 and 425 V-8s. Power front disc brakes were available as a new option along with a stereo eight-track tape player.
All GM full-size passenger vehicles received a major redesign in 1965 dominated by flowing “Coke bottle” lines and fastback roof profiles on its coupe models. For 1965, Buick also changed its marketing strategy and offering the Electra 225 in two trim levels, base and Custom. Along with the new body came a new chassis with a full perimeter frame including side rails that replaced the previous “X” frame used since 1961.
Coupe competition to this Buick in 1967 included Buick’s own Riviera and Wildcat, Cadillac’s Coupe de Ville and Eldorado, Chrysler’s 300 and New Yorker, Dodge’s Monaco and Polara, Lincoln’s Continental, Mercury’s Park Lane and Monterey, Oldsmobile’s 98 and Toronado and Pontiac’s Executive.
Documentation includes the original owner’s manual and Protect-O-Plate.
If a comfy cruiser sounds appealing, one with enough lane appeal to turn heads and evoke memories, wouldn’t you really rather have this Buick? If so, stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check out this Electra in person.
