Vehicle description
We are offering this 1961 Morgan 4/4 Roadster for sale. The car is owned by one of our customers at our British car restoration shop in Maryland.
The car comes with a nearly complete history of paperwork, documentation, and correspondence dating back to 1961 when the original owner purchased the car from Fergus, the original importer of Morgan cars to the East Coast. The car was shipped to New York City in 1961, and the original bill of sale is included in the documents provided with the car.
This Morgan has had three owners in total. It was kept in storage between 1963 and 2014. The second owner purchased the car at auction in 2014 and proceeded to complete a very thorough breakdown, restoration, cleaning, and rebuild of much of the car. The car received all new hoses, many fresh parts, and a paint job in 2014. This is a 4 cylinder, 3 speed manual transmission Roadster with a 1172 cc engine. Receipts for all replaced parts and work conducted are included with the car. The car was stripped to bare metal prior to repainting. Any surface rust was taken care of at this time. The documentation also includes a thorough list and explanation of everything the second owner had replaced or restored during this time. Here are some brief details:
Frame and Body: No sign of accident or body damage. No metal loss or serious rust. Car repainted in 2014/2015.
Woodwork: No evidence of damage to structural wood components.
Chrome/Brightwork: Restored to original luster, not replaced.
Brake and Clutch: All cylinders replaced. Rubber cups etc replaced. Lines cleaned up nicely.
Wheels and Tires: Wheel bearings thoroughly cleaned and tires replaced.
Electrical: Components removed and reinstalled during restoration. Showed no damage or rust.
Cooling: Radiator flushed and hoses replaced.
Engine and fuel: Engine and gas tank both thoroughly cleaned of residue at time of restoration.
Interior and Leather: Leather interior is original, has been oiled and cared for.
Top and Tonneau: The cream tonneau has faded with time but otherwise sound. The black top is in great shape.
Power Train: Every area of the transmission, engine, drive shaft, etc has been cleaned of crud and had fresh oil and grease where appropriate. The car runs and drives. A compression test showed all cylinders measured about the same at 100psi.
