Vehicle description
I purchased the car off in 2007. Since the car was located in Grand Rapids Michigan I contacted John Twist of University Motors and arranged for him to inspect the car prior to purchase. Based upon his inspection & recommendation I purchased with the Buy It Now feature for 12,700.00. The listing stated that the car had been stored in a heated basement since 1982 and due to medical problems the owner was forced to sell. In talking to John he shared with me that University Motors had last serviced the car in 1982. He felt the story was probably accurate. This a rust free MGA that now runs and drives as an MGA should but could use cosmetics (paint and front bumper re-chromed) All mechanical issues have been addressed. Mechanical work was performed by Ken Nixon, Cumberland Motor Works, Nashville, Tn. and J.D."s British cars, Nashville, Tn. Receipts are available. Cumberland Motor Works: Rebuilt front & rear shocks, replaced rear links. Replaced front king pin bolts and nuts. Replaced upper trunion seals, fuel pump and hose clamps. Installed rack boots and outer tie rod ends, new aluminum radiator, thermostat, top and bottom hoses, center hose, water pump and new coolant. New gas tank installed( Moss). Dash replaced with one from 1959 Twin Cam, new dash wiring harness rewired to main harness, connected to original wires and color. MGB choke cable installed. Relocated Temp/oil gauge. Turn signals rewired front and rear. Tune and service performed: adjust valves, points and condenser, cap, wires, rotor, cleaned plugs. Carbs reset, replaced needle & seats front and rear. JD"s British Cars, Nashville, Tn.: Installed spin-on oil filter kit, cleaned hubs and bearings repacked after cleaning along with new hub seals. New front brakes, discs, calipers, pads and hoses. New rear cylinders, brake and clutch master cylinder . Removed master cylinder bracket, pedals, pedal bracket and pedal stop bracket. Cleaned brackets and bulkhead under the pedal box, prepared brackets and pedal box for painting. Weld and drill ovalled clevis pin holes at brake and clutch pedal. Paint pedals, master bracket, pedal bracket and pedal stop bracket. Paint inner and outer bulkhead at pedal box area. Install pedal stop bracket, pedal bracket, master bracket and pedals. Install and fill clutch/brake master cylinder, bleed clutch and brakes. King pins checked and were okay. Stainless steel exhaust.
Five new BF Goodrich white wall radials and tubes from Coker Tire, Chattanooga. These were mounted to 5 new wire wheels from Moss Motors. Included but not installed is Moss leather seat kit & panel kit and black carpet kit with spare tire cover. New wooden seat pans along with seat foam included. The car was originally white and has been repainted Dove Grey. Heritage certificate provided. MGA registered with NAMGAR # 1916. Too many new parts to list go with the car. The car does not have any side screens. The top frame is included but need to be stripped and repainted. It will also need a new top once the frame is restored. This is a car for someone who does not want mechanical issues to deal since they have been addressed. It needs to be repainted( I planned to repaint Old English White). This car needs to go to someone who will finish the cosmetics and enjoy. The mileage on the odometer cannot be verified on this end. University Motors may be able to shed some light based on the records they may have keep. The car has been off the road since 1982 but handles and drives like an MGA should. Come drive it and check it out in person. The mechanical refurbishment was due to the fact the car has been off the road for 38 years.
