Vehicle description
1957 Pontiac Custom Safari two door. Rare car, one of 1,292 made. This is #643 made half way through the production. Original color was silver with a gray and white leather interior and carpets. This wagon was modified in the late 1960"s by two Pontiac enthusiasts in Brooklyn, NY. At that time the car was painted Cadillac metallic brown, with a gold metallic spear. This was a very popular color at this time. The original interior was treated to a black roll and pleated makeover. The cars original motor was removed and a 421ci Pontiac motor was installed. This car also has a rare six way manual reclining front seat. This was an option offered in the 50"s. The car has been off the road since 1983. It was located in a carpenters bar surrounded by saw dust. I installed a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville motor with tri-power. This wagon shows patina which is very popular today along with the chrome and trim. The car runs very strong, and is a great conversation piece whenever I take it some where.
Two years ago I drove the car to the Pontiac convention in Texas, where it was the only "57 Safari there. On another note, this particular car was driving to the second Pontiac convention in Wichita Kansas in 1974. It has a show history. The car can be left alone or restored. Not many left like this to enjoy. Will consider respectful offers.
