Vehicle description

For sale is a very rare and desirable 1957 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon. . A unique opportunity to purchase Pontiacs" version of the 1957 Chevrolet Nomad. .what makes the Safari so much more rare to find is that Chevrolet produced nearly 5 times the number of Nomads that Pontiac produced in the Safari. .whenever shows are held, there may be a number of Nomads present, but you will very seldom see a Safari.
13 years ago I began what turned out to be a relentless 3 year search for a rust free and complete Safari project. .using every site available. . there were very few ads posted of Safaris anywhere during those years. .and the Safaris" that were for sale All had major rust damage of some sort. requiring extensive frame, floor, roof, rocker panel or tailgate repair. .and usually needed a complete window glass replacement as well. To add to that, none of them was anywhere near complete. . many parts were missing that were not then and are still not now reproduced
When I finally found this one, it turned out to be a Southern California car that was everything the others weren"t. . .this wagon is 99% rust free! obviously it was stored indoors and protected for most of it"s life. . the frame, factory floors, rockers, roof and drip rails, the bottoms of the doors, the tailgate, the lift gate are extremely nice and rock solid. .the only rust through area on the entire car is shown with the tape measure. . a portion of the body skin behind the driver side rocker molding approximately 1"x5". that"s it! There does not appear to be any evidence of any prior collision damage or body filler present. . soft creases in the body skin are evident in a few places, but are very minor in nature.
All the original tinted glass is present and in very nice condition. . .this Safari is 95 % complete and 99% rust free
All of the exterior stainless trim, the headliner bows, the entire interior trim set is all present and in very nice condition for replating or polishing . the front grill, the front and rear bumpers, most of the bumper brackets. .nearly everything that came with the car originally is present and accounted for.
The front bench seat is a power seat, the original steering wheel is restorable, very nice gauges, cluster, extremely nice original radio
The previous owner apparently installed a mounting set up to accommodate another type of engine. . it did not alter or prohibit the area from being returned to the stock mounting of the 347. . by the way, a recent sale in Northern California included a mechanically altered custom 57 Safari that sold for $125K
This car comes with clear California Title, the vin tag is in the correct location. .the car rolls easily. . if the engine and transmission are not wanted, the price will be reduced by $500
I have been restoring cars and trucks as a hobby for nearly 50 years. .believe me, in the last ten years or so, some of those cars when finally sold barely covered the total investment. .this particular restoration project could prove to be a notable exception
Out of just over 1200 produced, from what I understand, there may be no more than 90-100 of these left . restored to stock condition beauties can bring $75K-$90K. . custom versions have brought even more. . at the asking price, there is plenty of room to make this a great addition to a collection while securing a very nice investment. .
The 1957 347 cu. in. V-8 and transmission are currently out of the car. .they came with it but I do not know if they are the originals. .I have described everything as honestly and thoroughly as possible. .there are no warranties offered or implied. .this is a very rare car in this very rare condition. .Serious, ready to buy persons are encouraged to call with questions and make an appointment to view. .thank you. .I will be happy to work with the shipper Because of my commitment to honor and support homeless and disabled veterans, their families and others less fortunate who call the streets and darkened alleyways their home, proceeds from this sale will be used to purchase items of need and comfort for those who have served our country and are now facing great challenges in their daily lives. .May God Bless
