Second Owner for 45 years - ORIGINAL PAINT GERMAN 1961 TYPE 2 TRANSPORTER 87,000 original miles I bought this bus from the German couple who bought it new when they moved to the United States . The vehicle has been in Southern California and Arizona since new. Never crashed and all doors, glass, hinges and handles are original. The photos show the perfect body panel gaps. The trail light assembly was change to the larger units (1962) for safety. I have the original owners manual and service book and original jack, lug wrench and tool kit.
DRIVE TRAIN : 120 horse power, 2700 cc, air cooled flat 6 cylinder CHEVROLET CORVAIR ENGINE to VW bus transaxle. (Installed in 1969 because the owner thought it was to slow (and unsafe) for California freeways. Professionally done Complete Drive Train rebuilt in 2018 : New pistons and rings (.020 over bore) Isky Cam and lifters. Performance valve job. Powder coated engine covers. Electronic ignition and Flamer Thrower II coil , Performance dist cap and silicon ignition wires New alternator High Flow air cleaners Remote oil filter and NEW FUEL TANK with electric fuel pump Complete transaxle rebuild with HIGHWAY GEARS. New rear brakes complete. German clutch , performance clutch disc and TO bearing New trans mounts, shift coupler and clutch and throttle cables FRONT SUSPENSION : Professionally done complete rebuilt front axle with bushing and seals. New shocks WILWOOD DISC BRAKES and correct master cylinder. Resealed steering box. INTERIOR : also brand new ! Saddle color vinyl upholstery, seat, headliner, doors and kick panels. (plus an extra roll of matching vinyl) New mirrors, floor mat, steering wheel and sun visors. VDO Gauges : volts, oil temperature and fuel gauge with tank sender. NEW battery and cables. New wiring from motor to front. 5 new tires NEW EMPI MAG wheels and chrome lug nuts. 5 Original steel wheels included (like new) Engine compartment painted early VW yellow Have fiberglass air scoops like new (not plastic) REAR INTERIOR : Rear seat that reclines with armrests and seat belts and quick release floor mounts. NO FLOOR RUST, NO FRAME RUST…TOTAL RUSTS, ABOUT 10 HOLES SMALLER THAN A PENSIL ERASER ON THE LOWEST BODY CURVE. The bus just needs paint and door/window seals. As you can probably tell, this Bus has been my pride and joy most of my life. I will be 70 years old next year and ready to let someone else enjoy it. I’ve had probably 6 Busses in years past and can tell you that the Corvair power train is the best thing you can do for the driveability. Email any question.
