Vehicle description

1992 Porsche 968 Cabriolet This is a very rare and unique car and opportunity. 1992 Porsche 968 Cabriolet tiptronic. This is one of approximately 100 Amazon Green (color code L39A - a very pretty blue/green metallic combo), of which only around 30 or so were automatic/tiptronic transmissions (source: 968 Register. Fun fact: the adventurine green 968 cab shown under this color on that site was also my car :). While manual transmissions were certainly the more popular choice for Porsche buyers of the day (& I would agree most of the time!), I personally think the character of this touring cabriolet suits itself nicely to an auto (my non stick driving wife agrees, as well). The retail sticker price on this car in 1992, was approximately $60,000. This was a top tier Porsche in its day. The 968 was the epitome and swansong of the brilliant “ transaxle ” 944 platform. Lots to learn on the web about the history, so you don’t need that from me. On to the car at hand. . This is a great driver level example, with a TON of documented service work and updates done over the last 5 years or so. Originally a Florida car, it found its way to southwest Michigan (I live on in IN/MI line) in 2014. This is a “turn key” classic that can be 100% enjoyed as is, or you can continue the improvement work we’ve done, as you go. Below is a list of some of the major improvements made of late, followed by the handful of things I intended to do to the car (I was not planning to sell it now, but an all original, “still in the wrapper” 1988 924S with only 17k miles just unexpectedly made its way into my life, and with all my other cars, I do not have room for both). Recent updates/upgrades: *Timing belt / balance shaft belt (always the first 944/968 question!): done approximately 3 years and 2k miles ago (April 2017). *4 new tires and alignment (April 2019) *New CV Boots *New muffler and exhaust hanger mounts *New Alternator & alternator belt *New Flywheel lock *New 02 sensors *New windshield with integrated antenna (windshield wasn’t broken in anyway, just years of stone pits etc) *New cruise control unit Potential Enhancements: *Minor paint blemishes and dings: There are some stone chips on the front hood/clip, as well as a few dings in the hood, that are really only noticeable from certain angles, but are there. There is also a door ding, on the driver’s door, right by the door handle. There are various other small scratches and dings, as any 28 year old car might have - but its certainly cleaner than most 20+ year old cars. *A/C needs a recharge. Its a cab, and I don’t think I ever drove it with the top up, so the A/C was never a priority for me. It blows, just not ice cold. *Steering was changed to manual: After several attempts at repairing the infamous power steering fluid leaks these cars all seem to get, the previous owner decided to simply change it out for a non P/S, manual rack. This suits the character of the car fine (after all, the original 1983 944 cars came without P/S, and gives it a more performance oriented feel. But for more luxurious cruising, and frequent parking lot usage, one may want to go back to P/S. An additional rack is included with the car! *That 944 cold idle vibration: I feel the car exhibits this as much as many do. Friends have told me its standard, and I’m too old and used to my daily driver Panamera haha. Not noticeable at all when driving, but that common vibration is there when first starting the car and at idle/reverse speeds. *The top is water tight and functional, but not excellent. It is operated manually. There is one small patch in the back, and a couple other small spots worn fairly thin. The plastic rear window is a little discolored. Not cracked at all, and may clean up. I never really tried - again, the top was always down. It does its job perfectly if it rains or you just need shelter or protection.
I have tried to be as upfront as possible about this cool car, to alleviate any surprises or disappointments, from any would be long distance buyers. Of course, I recommend arranging to see the car in person, prior to bidding/buying. I tend to be overly critical of my cars when selling them, and explain everything that I’d want explained to me, if I was buying the car. I have owned well over 100 Porsches (don’t tell my wife), and am picky about my cars, but, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so prospective buyers have to decide if this is the car for them. Please don’t expect a pristine Pebble Beach car. This is a great, straight, honest, excellently driving example of a unique and rare car, that is sure to only appreciate with time. Please ask any and all questions before bidding or buying, and understand that your bid is a binding contract. Only bid, if you are prepared to buy the car at your bid price. Deposits will not be returned, and non-paying bidders will be reported. Do not ask the reserve, simply bid what the car is worth to you. If you"d like to make a Buy it now offer, to end the auction early, feel free, and I will consider. Thank you and good luck!
