Vehicle description
Vehicle Details I am selling the Avanti on behalf of my mother-in-law. I am not knowledgeable about the vehicle, but my father-in-law was an engineer and kept extensive records. I am not certain what is important to a potential buyer of an Avanti so more information, than is probably necessary, is included. My father-in-law, who recently passed, inherited the car in 2001 from the wife of the original purchaser, who had passed several years prior. The odometer is functional and currently shows 63,510. Based on the amount of time the car was in storage and on the records that were kept, I believe the mileage to be accurate. In September of 2006, the Avanti was transported with 63,243 miles on it, to Mike Myer in Ohio. The engine had a first class rebuild, the block was bored .040 to square up the cylinders, new piston, reconditioned rods, magnafluxed, and polished crank. The rotating parts were also balanced and the heads were rebuilt with hardened exhaust seats and new stainless steel valves. The supercharger was rebuilt and set up to deliver more boost. When the engine was out, the engine bay and underside of the hood was painted, the air cleaner, carb bonnet, ignition cover and engine cover below the intake were all re-chromed.A GM 1988 700R-4 (4-speed automatic) was installed using Mike Myer’s adaptor. A Chrysler pointless distributor and a new fuel pump was also installed. A Ken Harrison ent., Inc. electronically tuned AM/FM receiver with an auto reverse cassette player with new speakers were added. New front and rear seat belts were also added. The brake and steering systems were rebuilt, sound deadening and insulation under-layment was installed under new carpeting and Studebaker floor mats. This list is far from everything, but should give you an idea of the amount of work that was completed on the vehicle. The car was with Mike Myer for almost two years. There were eighteen separate invoices which totaled $19, 171.34. If interested, I can supply the file name and Linda, from Mike’s office, said she would be happy to take you through the work that was done to restore the vehicle. In addition, my father-in-law had invoices from Studebaker International for $5,000, which was for Avanti parts and $1,526.62 to Nostalgic Enterprise for work done. There is a custom car cover and a Halo fire extinguisher still in their boxes.I have driven the car and it runs cool, strong and the 4-speed automatic shifts firmly. Everything works as if should but the gas gauge doesn’t seem to be working as it should. We also have the correct paint for the gauge cluster surround, which could use paint. The exterior paint for the most part is original and although not perfect, it is important to remember that the car is 58 years old. Considering this, it looks pretty good.My father-in-law had a huge library on Studebaker Avanti’s and fifteen years of Avanti Owners Association publications. We also have all of the original owner records. These would be included with the sale of the car.Everything stated above can be confirmed with documentation. Images Download the Motors app
