Vehicle description
Scarce Find, 1973 SAAB 96 Sport Coupe 2 Door.
Famous for the "Little Big" Swedish car that won many Car Rally"s in the 60"s & 70"s.
This little gem, was owned by the original owner and took loving car of her. Made up his mind in the early 2000s to put her back to top shape, so he drive it to a SAAB Specialist to restored. It was driven into the shop and work started. During that time the owner passed away and the work stopped. This was about 15 years ago.
Today she stands partially dis-assembled for freshening up. All parts look to be all there. The motor is complete and all there, however the cooling system hoses have been removed for replacing.
It would not take long to re-assemble her and drive it as is. . or to continue down the same path and do a cosmetic restoration.
The original paint is faded but ok, the interior is intact and good condition, headliner good, tires hold air and seam ok. She has very little rust, mainly light surface rust here & there and only a few through holes that are easily fixed.
The 96 was introduced in 1960 and was produced until January 1980, a run of 20 years. Like the 93 it replaced, the 96 was a development from the old Saab 92 chassis and, on account of its improvements and modernization, it opened new markets for the company.
It was the car for which the marque Saab became internationally known, not least because of its safety innovations and its motor sport successes in International Rally"s .
This1700cc Ford V4 coupled with a 4 speed on the column transmission. Only 106,700 miles from new. She is very unique and has a very striking eclectic look.
