Vehicle description

It"s time to sell my Signal Red 1969 TR6. This car was actually manufactured in December of 1968, though all cars were officially 1969 model year. It was TR6 #2342 built (of 91,850 total) and it"s stamp date is January 1, 1969 - the first day of the first model year. As many will know, 1969 is also the most desirable model year - only about 6,000 TR6 were imported in"69. It does not have the power-zapping emissions equipment, higher bumpers, bumperettes and electrical complexity of the later cars. It also has a few unique features limited to 1969 cars: the windshield frame is body color (not black), the seats are the early type, which have a pivot point in the middle and flip forward to allow access to the back shelf. This car also has the original, chrome bumper bars, which were a dealer installed option. It is a 4 speed, non-overdrive car, has Monza dual exhaust, 4 minilite wheels (fake knock-offs) with fresh rubber and a spare wire wheel. The car has no rust at all - none on the frame and none on the body. When I bought it, it ran and drove pretty well, but in the last 2 years I"ve worked with two very reputable classic car specialty shops in Monterey to go through it, including, but not limited to: Feb, "19
Rebuilt engine, including repaired head, new pistons and rings, honed cylinders, new valves, valve springs, oil pump, EGR valve, etc. Brought back to have the head re-torqued in May "19 (standard 3 month follow-up procedure) and while it was in they upgraded the fuel pump to an electric unit and upgraded the alternator. June, "18 Mostly new wiring harness and electrical system, including alternator, new ignition switch, new lights and wiring where needed, refurbished or replaced correct Smith gauges where needed, new correct lenses and bulbs where needed, new plugs and wires, new heater box relay, refurbished horn (alternator upgraded again in May "19) November "17 Brake system refresh (new master & slave cylinders, new pads); suspension re-fresh all around (new shocks, wheel bearings, U-joints); steering system re-fresh (bearings checked and replaced where needed) New gas cap, new fuel gauge sending unit gasket (tank came out and was inspected)
These are just the major pit stops. I"ve put more than $20k into it in 2 years (records will go with car) and it now runs beautifully, steers, shifts, stops and works like it should. Radio, heat, wipers, all lights, choke, windows, everything works. I drive it about 15 minutes to/from work on nice days and don"t hesitate to jump in this car and drive 3 hrs to San Francisco and back. Since the engine rebuild, this car feels really quick. It has always cornered well - it has sharp turn-in and none of the oversteer that TR6"s sometimes have.
Those who know these cars know that the work is never done, and this one is no exception. Here are some things that the next owner could tackle:
- The soft top has good mechanicals, operates well and is water tight, but one snap needs to be reattached to the car (you can see this in one of the photos) and has a 1/8" tear (patched).
- The car got an original color re-paint at some point before my ownership; it is good but not concourse.
- Speedometer and Tach need calibration (or I"ve really been speeding for two years)
- Passenger door latch needs adjustment - this accounts for the gap you see in the photos; I will try to fix this before sale.
- The hood latch mechanism is missing it"s height adjuster. The latch works as it should but can"t be fine tuned up & down. The hardware is available on ebay, Moss Motors, etc.
Questions are welcome: it"s a honest car for sale in a spirit of openness. I"d like it to go to a good home. I would be happy to help arrange shipping or even deliver it a reasonable distance.
