Vehicle description
This is a car that 6 retired mechanics, engineers and gear heads decided to build while we wintered down in Naples Florida over the past two years. We decided to build a Pikes Peak hill climb race car ( for the street ) we bought a sand rail from a retired VW mechanic racer that ran the Baha and the Mint 500 in Las Vegas a number of years ago. The engine has a Crane cam, lightened flywheel, 88 MM pistons headers and a brand new electronic distributor. We cut a dune buggy body into four pieces then widened and stretched it and made a fiberglass front end from scratch. The interesting piece in the rear is some sort of a supercharger from a 1970 Hercules aircraft we bought from an airplane swap meet. It is stainless and aluminum and all the bolts have been wire locked. We hate to think how much this costs new. ( it does NOT work ). No one has more fun than us at a show or cruise night listening to all the "EXPERTS " telling their friends how it works. The seats are new. the dash is full of race switches. The wheels are Chevy rally"s and the tires are new. The brakes are stock VW drums and with the oversized wheels and tires you MUST pay attention to the stopping distance. The car runs real strong, handles like crazy and is a ball to drive. The steering wheel is removable and I am 6 foot tall 160 LBS and have plenty of room. The four tubes you see in the rear are roll cage and two are for the fresh air scoops you see on the top. They are hand made from foam and fiberglass. It has directional lights but, no windshield wipers. I was going to bolt on a Model T Ford manual wiper. The headers are coated and you can take them apart to change the sound. The bump on the hood is a tach and works fine. There is a remote oil filter system. The front spoiler is removable in less than a minute so you can attach a VW tow bar to flat tow it. This car has been a blast to build and drive but, we think we are loosing our summer storage so, before we all head back to the Boston area for the summer, Now is the time to send it down the road to a new owner. I have a Florida title in my name. We are starting the bidding at $6000 and believe me, there is more that that in parts. There is "NO" reserve. Thanks for looking and I will answer any questions you may have. Russ
