Vehicle description

1972 Nostalgia Funny Car 426 Hemi Satellite/Road Runner MOPAR Up for sale is a 1972 Satellite/Road Runner nostalgia funny car, powered by a factory original 426 cast iron Hemi engine and a short tail shaft 727 transmission. About a year ago Big Mike in Las Vegas, heard from a friend, that a neighbor had an old Mopar race car in his garage that might be for sale. With some detective work we found the car in a garage that didn’t look like it had been opened for 40 years. We purchased the car from the son of the driver who raced the car in Las Vegas and the West Coast in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The son didn’t know much about the car because he was “just a kid” while his dad was racing. He did give us the following information: The car was last raced in 1983 using a Hilborn Injection intake system. His dad decided to put a blower on the car, and removed the Hilborn system. He also removed the engine and had it rebuilt to a lower compression ratio for the blower, which never got installed. That much appears to be correct, because looking down the spark plug holes, I can see the top of new pistons. The engine is an original cast iron hemi with cast iron heads. In 1983-84 the dad became sick and was unable to race or work on the car. The garage door was closed, car was covered, and everything put on hold and forgotten. Eventually the dad passed away from his illness. The son, who had no interest in the car or racing, left everything where it sat, until we showed interest and purchased the car last year. My original intent was to buy the car and keep the engine and transmission for a restoration project, and send the car “down the road” as a roller. But I have realized this car may be a piece of racing history and needs to stay together as built. Hopefully someone car return this car to its original racing heritage. All I know about this car is that the chassis was built by M & S Welding in southern California. There is a tag welded to the cage that reads 63 SEMA (see photos). I don’t who the original purchaser was, or who it was built for. Hopefully there are some records somewhere. I did find a photo on google that showed Shirley Muldowney (see photos) sitting on the front of the same make/model and color car, but I don’t know if it’s the same car. The car is currently located in St. George, Utah (about 2 hrs north of Las Vegas) and will obviously need to trailered. I will accept a bank wire transfer or cash only. I can help with loading and transportation, and can store the car for a reasonable amount of time. Want to make a statement at your local car show? Roll this car out of the back of your trailer, fire it up, and idle over to the race cars section and pop it open. That will draw a crowd. Any questions please call Jeff @ 801 910-6306
