Vehicle description

Let’s be real here, COVID has changed the way we travel for the indefinite future. If you’ve ever daydreamed about owning an Airstream, there is no better time than now! Stay local, check out national parks, or just fulfill that fantasy of tiny home living like we did and buy this one of a kind, incredibly rare 1987 Airstream Argosy, also lovingly known as a Squarestream. I lived in this full time for two years after selling my condo, so you know everything was done up to the standards of a true tiny home. Renovations took about 6 months, all done by a custom home builder and licensed trades. This is a house on wheels, and fully functions as such. Airstream only made two generations of the Argosy, and only 1500 were produced with this second generation. She is 32’ long from tongue to tail, airstream specs have her weighing in at only about 7300 lbs. and easy peasy to tow. She has the hard to find but often coveted rear bedroom, that has a full size bed but could fit a queen if you removed the nightstands. This is hard to find in any Airstream- I know, I looked for months! She is a real head turner, and sure to have people showering you in compliments and curiosity- honestly, one of my favorite parts of owning her. I was so proud of what we had created that I love sharing it with others! I know what youre thinking, that asking price is crazy! We can do it ourselves for WWAYYY less. And I’m here to tell you, no, you can’t. Not properly. This IS what it costs to do it properly, and this was done by a custom home builder. Maybe you can find a shell, throw in some Ikea furniture and give it some fresh paint for less and it’ll look pretty, but it won’t be a completed project. If you don’t have the skills to build, replace, plumb, etc you’ll be hiring someone to do the work which will also cost you big time. So you can try and do it yourself, or take my advice and BUY THIS ONE already done perfectly and properly! Not only that, it has a TITLE! We purchased in June 2017, and below is a list of work completed, and know that everything replaced or upgraded was done so with brand new items:Custom paint job inside and outSubfloor removed and replaced anywhere there was previous water damage, all leaks repaired and sealed, QUALITY luxury vinyl flooring installed throughout. Upgraded electrical at outlets and panel box, added outlets with USB ports for chargingA/C with optional heatNew wheels and tiresCompletely replaced braking system- new brakes, brake assembly and backing platesTANKLESS water heater – ALL THE HOT WATER YOU COULD EVER WANT ON DEMAND! !NEW COOKTOPNEW DISHWASHER (removed oven, Installed dishwasher in its place. Trust me, WORTH IT.)Replaced gas linesCustom countertops throughout (kitchen, desk, bathroom and bedroom side tables; as airstream keeps everything the same so you have continuity, we honored that tradition)Upgraded sinks and faucet fixtures throughout; upgraded plumbing at kitchen and bathCustom stainless-steel shower pan so you don’t have to worry about fiberglass cracking over timeRemoved dinette and created a functional workspace that also created several square feet of living space; gives the illusion of having a slide out. Custom trim throughoutHigh end LED overhead lights throughout, LED reading lights installed under all bed, couch and desk cabinets (LED allows for several days of power off battery)Vents and fans installed throughoutFront “couch” is a custom made Twin XL futon, so is a very comfortable, very functional sleeping and seating space; entire base of couch is pull out storage, several feet deep. Upgraded insulation in subfloor, including under the bed and couch platforms and in the belly pan for additional warmth in the winter and to help cool in the summerUpgraded stereo with Bluetooth; both front and rear speakers are original and are in perfect working order, and the sound is incredible. We plug in our laptop and listen through them and it sounds like a movie theater!Roof was completely resealed (three coats) and painted Window film to help with privacy and reduce UVAll original cabinets throughoutRear bed is a full, mattress is only 2 years old and is included, unless for some reason you don’t want it!Bed platform was custom built; the entire underneath is pull out drawer storageNew belly panCustom made awnings with heavy duty sunshade material, handmade at a local sailboat shopOutdoor shower installed and connects to water heaterReplaced all original CPVC plumbing with PEX material for durability and its resistance to freezingElectric is set up for BOTH 30 and 50 AMP so you can set up anywhere and add just about anything, (ie a second AC unit if you wanted!)Upgraded door lockThings we didn’t do, some choices we made, and the good to know:Original cabinetry, left intentionally. We wanted to maintain as much of the original features as possible. With it being a Squarestream, you have so much more overhead room than a traditional airstream and with that also comes more storage. Again, I lived in this for two years and had ample storage throughout. The closet is huge when you consider it is a closet in an RVTwo bedside tables are original but with new custom tops. Could be removed if you wanted a larger bed back there. We chose to use an electric mini fridge rather than a dual propane/electric Dometic fridge, but the space is there for one; it is roughed in with access to propane, etcIf you wanted to install an all in one washer/dryer like an LG or a Splendide, you could likely fit one in the closet. Again, I preferred the storage and lived in a park with laundry on site.Fresh water tank is there but not hooked up; we never felt there was a needFurnace could be installed; the hook ups for it exist but again, personal preference to not use it. Electric heaters cost less than propane anyway, and two will get the trailer toasty even in the dead of winter.Gray and black water tanks are good and hold their respective fluidsKitchen backsplash and wood paneling is quality removeable wallpaper, not tile and wood. This choice was made to keep weight as low as possible. We put up wood paneling, or “walls” to cover the rear windows and front windows. Can be removed but this helps keep the bedroom and seating area insulated, and creates extra wall space for art or whatever you’d like.We had a window AC unit in the bedroom fitted into a plexiglass window. It was a better choice for us than ripping everything apart to add a secondary rooftop AC unit. Removed it for photos and put in new plexiglass panel. Can include AC unit if you’d like. All but one of the original jalousie windows work, a few are missing screens, front windows were replaced with plexiglass panels to provide more insulation. When we purchased, it was missing one of the jalousie windows anyway so this seemed like the best choice. I still have the one remaining one in storage. The need to tell you stuff because I believe in karmaRooftop has been resealed, but there is hail damage. This doesn’t mean a whole lot; it doesn’t leak, no one sees it, its fully insurable. One of the front side window panels has a crack, too challenging to replace so I put a cute Grateful Dead sticker over it. This same window does not open. It is a 30+ year old travel trailer, and while it is in overall AMAZING condition, there are still a few little minor dings around the body, just like little door dings in a car that can only be seen at certain angles.Frank the Tank is available to look at in person in Austin, TX. Contact me for details on exact location if you’d like to come see her or to set up an appointment to see the inside.Delivery could be an option for a fee to be agreed upon by both parties. Please don"t hesitate to ask any questions- I am very responsive! No question is silly, and am happy to send more photos on request, I could only upload 24 here.
