Metro Motorsports, Inc. was formed in 2001 to compete in the Busch Grand National Series, with major sponsorship funding from "The Federal Group, Inc.", a building products manufacturing and distribution company servicing the multi-family housing industry. Because of close family ties, the team did not want to locate in the North Carolina area, and built its garage facility in its home town, including a (3/8) mile banked and paved shake-down track. The team initially bought out the assets of a "BGN" team located in Owensboro, Kentucky. The plan was to be able to do as much fabrication and car assembly work, in house, without having to travel back and forth to the Charlotte, NC area. In 2006, during the height of the financial and building crash, sponsorship was lost and the team was forced to cease operation and the garage was closed. The owner had planned to reopen the garage, update all race equipment and restart the team. However, in today"s competitive race environment, the decision has been made to sell all of the team"s assets. All items are as they sat when the garage was closed in 2006, and are in clean and orderly condition. Engine Program : In 2002 with the ever growing popularity of the NASCAR "Busch Grand National" series and the high number of "Cup" affiliated BGN teams, the cost of leasing engines on a per race basis was greatly increasing. Metro Motorsports made the decision to purchase outright its engines. That decision was reinforced by the fact there were two widely recognized engine builders within the team"s local area. Rhyne Competition Engines, Gary, IN and Brayton Engineering, Coldwater, MI were both used by Metro in maintaining their engine program. The owner has tried to give the best description and condition of all the listed items.
