Vehicle description

This is a very heavy duty former concession trailer that I have been using for a workshop, tool storage and cargo trailer since acquiring it about 10 years ago. It is titled as a 2012 Homemade Box trailer because that’s when I brought it to AZ MVD to register it; but the trailer probably dates back to the 1980s based on the labels still visible on the electric box.
All 6 sides open up; the pictures just show one of the side panels and the back panel open but you can totally open them all at once. This is a strictly manual affair- you unlatch them, swing them up & secure them with metal rods (included). There are enough rods to open 5 panels at once. It’s helpful to have 2 people to open it up but I’ve always done it myself. Except for the back door the side panels all latch closed. The back door uses an external hasp to secure it and the bottom panels. The back door closure could use improving for full time use, but it’s dry & reasonably secure as-is.
The entire box is made of galvanized steel on square steel frames so there’s no rust, just a little surface corrosion here & there on the steel plates and angles that are used to outline the galvanized panels. Peaked roof so water runs off, interior stays dry. The trailer was painted white a long time ago & as you can see in the pics much of it has flaked off- paint doesn’t stick well to untreated galvanized metal. The floor and interior wheel wells are plywood. I rebuilt the wheel wells a few years back, one is sagging & could use reinforcement. Floor is solid, no soft spots. If I remember correctly the box inside is around 12’ long by 7’ wide. I’ll measure it in the next couple days to confirm that.
The trailer has a 120 volt AC electrical system with a Square D QO circuit breaker box, outlets, switches and florescent lights on the ceiling. Wiring is all in metal conduit. It has about 20’ of yellow outdoor rated cord with a standard 120 volt, 15 amp plug, with an access panel for the cord to plug in when it’s all closed up. I used the electrical system when it was a workshop & everything worked including the lights but you might have to replace the bulbs by now. One of the outlets needs replacing. The wiring also goes up onto the roof- never looked but I assume there’s an outlet up there for signage.
The running gear consists of a standard trailer double axle setup with 6 lug, 15” wheels. The tires are a mix of brands and sizes, all hold air but they have been on there for many years and I’d recommend replacing them if you intend to actually use the trailer for hauling. I’ve only moved it from place to place- maybe a total of 100 miles in 10 years- and they were fine for that purpose. A good used set of 15” tires is included, along with a spare wheel. I greased the bearings a few years ago; again if you’re going to tow it around I’d definitely recommend servicing them. I believe there are brakes on one axle, but I’ve never hooked them up or used them so no idea of condition. Carrying capacity is a rough estimate based on standard axle capacity of 3500 lbs. each.
Uses a standard 2” ball tongue with a worm gear jack. Lights were usable when I first got it but plan on rewiring/new lights. I used magnetic tow lights the few times I had it on the road.
Note that being all steel the trailer is pretty heavy. When I towed it with a 6 cylinder pickup I could barely make 50 mph. With my Ram diesel, no problem, though I knew it was there. It’s tall (easily 6’ + headroom inside and close to 8’ outside) so there’s considerable frontal area.
Only reason for selling is I finally got a container and garage for workshop/storage so the trailer has become redundant. Time for it to move on down the road & become useful again.
