Vehicle description
2004 Coachman Elite 401 TS class A diesel pusher, 40". Condition is Used. Currently in Rio Rancho NM.
I have almost completely updated this RV. I owned Freightliner semis for 28 years and this is on a Freightliner chassis. It is mechanically sound.
We have put more than 38,000 miles on it in the last 3 years. We go to Florida and Wisconsin about once a year.
10/7/2019 Just serviced. Generator, engine, chassis.
It has a 330 hp 7.2 Cat diesel with 860 ft. lb. of torque and exhaust brake. Allison 3000 6 speed automatic. I average 6.5 to 7 mpg pulling a car on a dolly.
Transmission oil recently changed to synthetic. Changed the transmission filters (two). Good for another 80,000 miles. Oil samples were taken to check for the condition of internal components.
The gross weight is 32,000 lb. (weighs 26,000) The towing capacity is 10,000 lb.
It has a custom-built, full-width mud flap to protect the towed vehicle. All new lights on the rear; marker, stop, turn, reverse; LEDs. Over cab, new blackout LEDs.
Installed 12" dark tint sunshade for the front windshield and driver"s side window. Took down those rattling electric roller shades. You can have them. Installed air quick disconnect for utility air pressure, access is next to the gen-set in front.
New carpet and pad, reupholstered dinette. New custom front curtain. New custom window trim side covers. 2-new shades and a restring on one. New queen-sized residential mattress for the master bedroom. All new outer slide seals; right from the Forest River assembly line. New slide toppers; http:/ toughtopawnings.com/
New up-sized steer tires for greater carrying capacity: up to 16,000. (I did a video on why that"s a good idea:) New front shocks. New engine air filter. New air dryer service kit installed. New TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system, includes towed).
New CB radio with weather band and antenna. I have a portable unit as well if you convoy and need an extra. (considered safety equipment by me) Dash phone holder. Two first aid kits, emergency reflectors, and two fire extinguishers. Front dash-cam, DVR, electric fireplace. Installed a driver"s side overhead fan.
Custom step well cover to make it flat/level for co-pilot/computer table. Repaired and reinstalled entry step support. Replaced all the wood step liner with 3/4" plywood rather than 1/2"; carpeted. Resealed seams on the roof with Eterna Bond.
DVD player, 30" LCD TV in the entertainment center w/surround sound. Updated dash radio with USB and line in.
We use the TV for dual screens on the computer. We can set up two workstations without using the dinette.
Installed vent covers on all vents so they can be left open. Installed 360 vent cap on black tank vent.
Replaced all old metal radio antennas with rubber marine antennas. Fixed door awning to work. Repaired entry door stop. Insulated entry door.
Updated rear camera and installed front-facing (dash) camera. DVR with 7" flat screen, color. System can add two more wireless cameras. Hydraulic jacks for leveling. Air ride, front and rear; 12,000 lb axle front, 20,000 lb rear. 50 gal propane, 2-AC units, 12 cu. ft. 4 door refrigerator; AC/propane. ARPrv update is done to the fridge. https:/ www.arprv.com/
The coach has an outside radio and speakers in the front passenger side cargo bay. I removed the CRT TV and did not install another. A person could install a flat-screen for outside use under the awning.
New interior LEDs in the main aisle. New kitchen faucet with pull out sprayer. New lighting added over the counter; dimmable. New shower head.
Rebuilt the bedroom slide. Changed a roller and gear on the kitchen slide as one of the rollers broke (have a spare). Added additional seal to the bottom of the cabinets to floor. Didn"t come with one.
Added dump hose hole so wet bay door will close when hooked up. The factory hole didn"t work for that, just as a drain, so you had to leave the wet bay door open when hooked up.
Built floor dividers in the storage bay. Limits cargo bay storage, movement during travel. Lots of storage. Gas grill and tank can be included.
Replaced engine surge tank. They get old, plastic, and fail.
Safe-T-Plus RV Steering Stabilizer, 4 new rear tires, new tow dolly tires, 2018.
It lives in our driveway when not traveling, plugged in, tires off the concrete, tires covered, and the windows with foil insulation inside. Custom ramps to level and tire covers included.
A lot of the work I have done can be seen on YouTube. Search "RV maintenance and mechanical things". If I couldn"t find help on what I was doing, I made a video to help others. I have nearly 50 years of mechanical experience.
Realistically, other than routine maintenance or unforeseen break downs, you should be good for 5 years.
I think it rides better than our car:-) We really enjoy traveling in it.
I may have forgotten some amenities, so ask any questions.
When purchasing a coach, or any RV, be sure to ask for the maintenance records. I have a USB stick with over 200 lines on a spreadsheet and manuals in PDF.
Want to see a CAT 330, 7.2 with 156,818 miles and no smoke? https:/ youtu.be/IA45Yyfaw8U Some folks must think we are in China. We"re not. We are in the USA. Stop the scamming already! I"m not texting you my number and it says wire transfer, not PayPal. What"s the next trick? I"m sure I will find out. You don"t like rules, move to China. They don"t follow them either.
Thanks for looking.
