Vehicle description
1988 Ford Econoline E150 Xplorer Lil"Xtra camper van
We recently picked up this camper van from a local owner here in Southeaster Pennsylvania. The owner told us it was a good running and driving van before it was parked back in 2010. Once we brought it back to the shop, we discovered the dual tanks were empty of fuel. We added a few gallons of gas, a new battery and the 5.8 liter fuel injected v8 fired right up, running perfectly. We then took the van for a test drive. We found that the motor has good power, idles fine, and runs without any hesitation. The transmission shifts as it should, no slipping, no problems. Brakes work well. Just as the previous owner described. The Pennsylvania title is listed as exempt, due to it"s age. I do believe that the mileage is originally 76,771 as told to me by the previous owner.
Condition
Body - paint is chalky. some minor rust in front of both rear wheel wells (see pics). Dent and scratch along passenger side barn doors and scratches across both side barn door glass. Rear passenger side barn door is dented from spare tire being hit or pushed into the door. It opens and closes just fine. Scratches and dents at rear passenger side corner with a little rust. The dual Overhead sunroof glass seals are leaking water, it looks as though dirt has gotten behind the seals allowing rain water to seep in. Overhead roof vent cover is missing or broken.
Interior - The drivers window switch or motor is inop. Drivers door lock button is inop, works sometimes, unlock button is working and driver lock actuator is working. Passenger window and lock actuator are working. Cab A/C is not working. Cab Heat and blower motor work well. Because of the sunroof leak and roof vent is missing/broken the interior carpet was wet., The van does smell moldy. The rear toilet was removed and floor was covered with metal and carpet. The holding tank is still under the drivers side of the van. The drain and valve was removed but we still have the parts. Refrigerator freezer - I plugged in the 110 power supply and the refrigerator did not get cold. It has 3 options for power, propane, 12v, and 110v. I did not try to diagnose the reason it did not work. Potable water holding tank. Propane heat with thermostat (does work), cook stove (does work), 110v input - 12v inverter charger (does work) I ran 110v to the van input and left the interior lights on all night, The battery voltage to the living quarters stayed at 12.5 volts. sink - Shurflo water pump is seized and the on/off switch is not working (they are very cheap here on ebay, 3 working overhead cabin lights, original xplorer owners manual,
Drivetrain -5.8 engine runs great. temperature stays steady. Oil pressure gauge appears normal. Transmission shifts fine. Differential has no noises or excessive play. Rear tires are in good shape. Front tires have good tread but they are dry rotted. exhaust is in good condition. Working Dual fuel tanks.
Brakes . Pedal feels normal. brakes work well, no grinding squeals or unusual noises. Brake light is lit on the dash, but fluid level is good and parking brake is not stuck on. Not sure why the light is on.
Frame - Appears to be in very good condition for a 30 year old vehicle. Light surface rust, nothing serious that I can see. Floors are in good shape.
The van has been sitting for 10 years. Everything mechanically seems to be in good working order but it still might be a little risky to drive long distances. If you do decide to drive it. We can arrange to pick you up at Philadelphia International airport. We can also mount and balance new tires on the front at additional cost to the buyer (my cost - parts and labor).
