And now,,,, The Rrrrest of the story: This is a Very Cool, Very Vintage, and Very Original 1970 Ford Econoline E300 Xplorer 219 Class B Camper Van with 79,000 original miles. 5.0L 302CI V8, 3sp Automatic, with a lot of restoration and updates.
Here is the rundown, First of all this was a barn find type unit. It was completely untouched and original when we got it. Our goal was to keep it as original as possible, while updating it to make it safe, functional and Cool!
Now, on to the inside amenities. It has a full kitchen with a stove, sink, fridge, fan, counter, drawers and cabinets. There is a propane furnace, brand new water heater, pump and plumbing. The propane system is updated with a new tank, regulator and lines. The Countertops were in great shape and very very Yellow, so we kept them original. We replaced all of the doors, cabinet doors, refrigerator front, and drawers with new wood, and matching kitchen table, and topped them off with some fun pull knobs from Hobby Lobby. The original floor had green carpet that we replaced with all new Laminate Wood flooring throughout.
We also replaced all of the lights with new LED Lighting and added a few extras to get a good light balance throughout the coach. We also added a brand new Max Air type fan for great ventilation.
The Dinette folds down into a bed, and has new recovered cushions, as do the bunk beds. The coach also has new curtains throughout, all in the matching green and yellow theme.
Now let"s talk about the Bathroom. While most RV manufacturers use a white or yellowish tan colored fiberglass bathroom enclosure, not Xplorer. Oh no, they had to go all out with the Green, and Wow is it Cool! It is a full Green wet bath with RV Toilet, sink, shower, and built-in cabinet with new mirror. It really is a big part of the WOW Factor on this unit.
Another cool feature of this unit is that it has bunk beds in the back. While they are not full size bunks, they are good sleeping space for smaller persons. The top bunk can fold down as well, making for a small couch type seating area. Each bunk has LED Lighting and crank out windows with new screens at each end.
We also updated the electrical with a brand new AGM Coach Battery, new power inverter, and a battery isolator. This will charge both batteries when driving down the road.
Now let"s go up front to the cab. The front seats are original and are in incredible shape. It has the stock rubber green floor mat that could be replaced or covered, but it is still in decent shape so we left it there. The engine cover has a new padded top and the dash, gauges, and steering wheel are all in beautiful condition. While the Radio looks like something that came out of the 70"s, it is actually a brand new $400.00 updated unit with all current electronics, including bluetooth. The speaker next to it is brand new as well. We thought it was a great update with keeping the original look.
Now I would like to talk about the outside. This unit is incredibly solid with no rust issues. When we got it, the white stripe was very thin and faded around the van and the original green paint looked great with the surface rust/patina spots. The decision was made to paint the white stripe all the way around, and have the whole van clear coated to protect the rest of the original paint and patina. This van has had no body filler, accident damage fixed, or rust repairs. It is completely solid and we love how it turned out. There are a couple of dents on the front corner and minor dings, but overall it is in great shape. We had all of the window trim and front grill professionally polished so it looks like Chrome. The wheels have been painted to match the white, and polished as well, with new center caps and lugnuts. To top it all off we replaced the original plastic Xplorer hood emblem with a CNC Machined polished version.
There is not a lot that our crew did not touch on this unit. Mechanically the new parts list includes. Complete Tune up, Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters, and fluids. The original carb was completely rebuilt, new exhaust that has a nice little rumble. All 4 shocks were replaced with coil overload springs on the back. Other items include new battery, starter relay, radiator rebuilt, new hoses and belt, fuel tank sender, fuel pump, washer pump, starter solenoid, and even new Horns. (they are loud!)
All 4 brand new 16.5" Load Range E Firestone tires as well. There is no spare.
There are some nice trunk style storage areas on this coach. One on each side at the back, the right side has the new propane tank in it and still leaves room for storage, while the left is wide open for storage. There is also a rear storage door that has a "bunk" trunk with 2 levels of storage that you can get to from under the rear bed.
Here are some items that this unit does not have: Power steering, power disc brakes, front or rear air conditioning, generator, awning.
I am sure that I am missing some things but please feel free to call anytime at if you have any questions.
