Vehicle description
Hello, I’m selling my Mercedes 407D campervan. I imported the van from Europe to travel in Canada and USA. It is a double air van which means it is build for heavy load duty up to 4000 kg and has 4 tires on the rear axle. The campervan was made in 1983 and the mileage is 140.000 miles. T he mileage is about 22 miles per galon
The van is fully self sufficient. Here is a list of the most important items: Refrigerator (only 3 months old, replaced the old one, it’s a 3 way fridge meaning you can use it with 110 volt, 12 volt or propane (I use propane only now) Small bathroom with a hot shower. 2 pit stove. 70 litre fresh watertank 60 litre grey water tank Porto potti toilet. 2 batteries: 1 AGM 120 amp battery, 1 88 amp starting battery +- 50 watt solarpanel (its +- because its old) Queen size bed, which rebuilds to two cozy couches in 2 minutes (see picture for details. Lots of storing room (lots of it) There is also 3 toolboxes, and different kinds of parts that comes with it (oil filters etc.) A brand new folding bike Custom build seats (super comfy for long drives). Driver seat is air inflatable for mid and lower back support
After I bought the van I made it ready for the trip so I could drive without having to worry about reliability issues (receipt available) A list of what has been done: A bearlock (antitheft safety) a lock on the gearbox, pretty much impossible to steal the van (600 dollars) New insulation on the floor to reduce engine vibration and sound. New paint (the black and brownish striping) anti rust treatments were the main reason for that and overall improvement of the looks.
Technical stuff that has been renewed (receipt available), all NEW parts except the vacuumpot): 3 braking hoses (left front was still in good shape) dieseltank hoses for the cooling liquid, gearing liquid, clutch liquid motoroil refresh Return hose atomizer Filler hose Switch mounts (old were rusty) Put valves Dieselfilter Dieselcleaner Oilfilter Thermostat (thermostat opens up at lower temperature, better performance in hilly/mountain area) Radiator Radiator hoses Vstring/distributionbelt Both brakingdiscs Both brake pads Both brake rod pins Vacuum pot from a newer model, older models did not brake too well, there is a bigger on right now which gives a better breaking experience (makes it a lot safer) Clutch cylinder both up and down Braking oil Frontfilter Rubber stabilizing rod 4 new tires on the rear axle. Front tires are still fine. 120 amp AGM deepcycle battery 88 amp starter battery Garmin navigation
As you can read I have put a lot of work and energy and money in the vehicle to get it in a good shape for my trip, keep in mind this vehicle is more than 35 years old, so there is always something to work on, mostly the looks. The van is super reliable, and over the 15.000 miles I have been driving with it, only 1 fuse broke down and the starter battery got renewed. I’m really happy with the van and it’s sad that I have to sell it (travel continues somewhere else). So my hope is that somebody who loves these kind of vans as much as I do, will become the new owner. Van will be available from the first week in september. I am near San Diego.
Feel free to message me when you have a question.
Cheers Jasper
