Vehicle description
Do you know about these fascinating "solid state" campers made in Michigan? They were part of the original recreational vehicle "beginning" that exploded in the sixties and seventies.
My Wife and I have a VERY NICE 1976 Mesa for sale. We found this camper on the Apache PopUps website about ten years ago. It was listed by a young man who lived/worked in Daytona Beach, FLorida. We drove there from Raliegh, NC where we now live and brought it home with us. Upon acquiring the camper, we refurbished the interior with new indoor/outdoor carpeting, new laminate for the counter/table tops, fresh paint for the wood paneling, AND installed a 5K Air Conditioner. We ALSO installed a very handy pull-out flushable porta-potty that tucks away neatly under the sink. (there is nothing worse than a long trek to the campground facitilty in the middle of the night, so believe me this is a great feature and it works great. No muss, no fuss, just empty at the dump station at the end of the camping trip and fill it with the chemical and some water and it is good to go next time. We also painted the exterior with original color urethane two stage paint, replaced all the exterior screws with SS screws, replaced all the emblems, and added aftermarket awnings for the end windows. We procured some MEK and white plastic to repair a few cracks here and there, and replaced the living hinges.
The Lift Mechanism works very nicely and we have lubed the uprights with silicone each and every time we have utilized the camper. We have enjoyed our Mesa immensely but we are getting to that "special age" where we are staying put more PLUS our grandchildren are grown.
Included with the camper are many handy accouterments: a small microwave, a coffee maker, many eating and cooking utensils, three(3) ceramic heaters, a pair of strap on wide side mount rear view mirrors, and a host of other goodies that we found to be handy dandy for camping.
We put new wheels and tires on our Mesa just this spring.
If I were to suggest improvements that could yet be made to our Mesa, I would say new foam for the end beds and covers for same. I would also replace the plexiglass windows with tinted Luan for some privacy when camping. I am NOT sure the power inverter works, never tried it. Don"t think I would trust it. The propane stove works well as does the faucet for the sink and its drain. The sliding panels and chain lift mechanisms are all in fine working order. All the corner covers are present. The camper comes with plenty of hose and electrical cord for hooking up to the campground utilities. The crank appears to be a homemade crank but then I have never seen another Apache with a crank I know to have come from the factory so perhaps our is "original". Certainly the crank works fine.
Please feel free to message us for more information. This is a very nice Apache Mesa. You will have to look long and wide to find a nicer one I believe. Personally I prefer the feel of a "solid state" fold up camper to the more conventional canvas fold up camper.
