1973 Avion La Grande Travel Trailer. This is a very well preserved, lightly used, 28 foot vintage camper of years past. No expense was spared in routine maintenance and regular cleaning, and upkeep in preserving this unit to its current Excellent Condition. At first glance , with it’s shiny, flawless like exterior, one will find it difficult to determine the year model of this camper. Based on its pristine condition and appearance, one would automatically assume that it is a newer retro style model. The exterior is nearly perfect. Upon entering and viewing the interior, ornate wooden cabinetry, along with the somewhat modern amenities, one is instantly taken to an era of bi-gone years when this particular travel trailer was surpassed by none. . .and was literally King of the camping travel world. . . The interior is spotless. This Avion La Grande, when new ,was the camping trailer to own and was in very high demand. In its current maintained pristine condition, it is a great home away from home for traveling,vacationing, or weekekend trips. It definitely has a true unique camping explorer type feel to it. One does not find this in many of the more current modern era models. It does have many modern amenities that allow for comfort and efficiency, yet it still gives you a timeless feeling of yesteryear. This Avion is solid and stable in every way. Extremely solid in build and maintained to perfection. Unlike today’s modern era flimsier campers and trailers units, these Avion’s were built sturdy and built to last. It handles the road and rides very smoothly. . outstanding. It grabs and holds the road well and gives very little to none, in the more windy or inclimate weather conditions one may encounter. With a weight of around 4,200 pounds it is easily managed by most drivers. It’s midrange weight class, will allow it to be pulled with even lighter class SUVs like a GMC Denali or Chevy Tahoe. During its production years of the 70s, it surpassed and exceeded the construction of the somewhat popular airstream models and others. As a new unit , it also had a heftier price tag as well. . for good reason. The Avion is equipped with an independent suspension system, unsurpassed by none with safety in mind at the forefront during assembledge. This means unlike other models, this trailer with its dual axle and superior suspension, automatically self balances as it meanders down the road through corners and absorbs any road hazards, pot holes , and bumps with relative ease. A very smooth, safe, and stable ride is guaranteed. Another attribute that distances this Avion from Airstream and other some of the less popular silver coated competitors . .is its general construction. .unlike the others. unlike others, the Avion’s wall construction, actually has two layers of metal ( aluminum ) wall with commercial grade insulation. This serves to maintain comfortable temperatures, as well as to protect in general. The two layers of insulated aluminum serve to keep this unit cooler when it is hot outside, and also warmer during cooler seasons. During manufacturing, the aluminum shells of these units were specially treated with a heat and chemical process. . . .and were anodized to be exact. This strengthens and solidifys the aluminum outer shells. This process in short, hardened this lightweight aluminum to a more sturdy steel like strength shell giving it a more durable-solid exterior that is less likely to dent or ding while using the lighter metal . aluminum. Strong through and through. . yet still light for its construction time. There are many aspects of construction that surpassed many , if not all other units from this era. This Avion La Grande model has a lot of durability and is preserved in overall excellent condition. This is directly in part to its unsurpassed blue print, patents, and innovative build with more modern era type construction techniques. On the right ,door side of this Avion’s exterior you will find an easy access retractable awning. It allows plenty of additional coverage and comfort in avoiding direct contact with the more severe weather elements. It is easily pulled out for protection from sun, rain, or snow. This 20 foot awning was recently refitted with new spring coil rollers. It is easy to pull out or retract and is like new condition. It works smoothly and efficiently. This Avion La Grande was top of the line with no expense spared when it was brand new. Every aspect of its construction and design represent the perfection of its era.This unit rolls on four Dura brand heavy duty tires sized 255 75 15 with nice tread (3/4s or better) on twin axles. the wheels are fitted with the originally designed chrome wheel caps as well. A brand newer spare was recently purchased for good measure. The Avions have always been years ahead of the competition in quality, safety, innovation, solid construction, and general functionability. These Avion La Grande edition units are well equipped with most all of the modern era amenities and necessities one may expect. This unit has an excellent newer modern era “Carrier” brand air conditioning unit capable of cooling this unit rapidly and completely to the most comfortable of temperatures even in the midst of a Dry Desert or Hot Texas heat. No worries in keeping this unit cool whatsoever. It has a heater unit that is very efficient. just as well. As warm as you want to be. It also has a brand new , top of the line “ Dometic” brand refrigerator/ freezer. .with automatic temperature control adjust as well. It has black water storage and both hot and cooler water , with a brand new water heater as a bonus. The range and oven are fully functional and a nice cover tops the range for protection and travel. This trailer sleeps 4 comfortably and the two single sleeper beds have been fitted with brand new comfort sleep tempurpedic style mattresses. The front couch area easily converts into a two person sleeping arrangement in just a mere few seconds. It is very comfortable for sleeping as well. The bathroom is fully functional with a sink, a brand new toilet, and a rather spacious shower and plenty of cabinet storage. The full bathroom has ample space and is not small by any means. There are also plenty of wooden cabinet storage locations throughout this trailer. I believe that you can see most of them pictured in the photos throughout this camper. In short, more than enough storage. The wood cabinetry adds a more home like feel and decorative touch to this travel trailer. It is handcrafted woodwork and also has special push button type latches for easy opening and access. These locktite type closures are essential for safety during traveling situations to secure and keep items from moving during travel. these cabinet doors always stay shut , yet also open easily with the push of a button. There are 12 volt outlets strategically placed throughout the unit for all of your modern comforts and conveniences. The outlets are ideal for flatscreen Televisions, an MP3/CD Player or radio. A coffee maker , toaster oven, a hair dryer or blender can all be conveniently used with these easy access outlets. The internal lighting inside is fully converted and upgraded to the more modern-efficient LED lights that are brighter and also more energy efficient. This Avion camper was never neglected, and has been serviced and maintained thoroughly and regularly since its purchase brand new. One will not be disappointed in anyway.
