Offered to you today 1963 Formcar mark I Formula Vee Monoposto 63-71 Designed by Enrico NARDI for Herbert Brundage of Brumos Porsche/Volkswagen as a one-design Race Car Class The Formula Vee, based on a stock 1200cc Volkswagen running gear had become the largest racing class ever in the history of the Sports Car Club of America. Number 63-71 was a Barn-find in Virginia and is among one of the oldest Formcar Mark 1 known to exist.
This was the year and model that set the standard for what became Formula Vee
Porsche purchased an number of these and used them to develop drivers in Europe including Hans Hermann, Ben Pon Jochen Mass, Dieter Quester, Gerhard Mitter and Marc Surer
This is a 1963 model Mark 1 serial number 63-71 (71st Formcar built in 1963 ) I was told this is the 12 th oldest Formcar around today, that number may change if other earlier cars are found. I am listing this for the wife of a dear friend who died of cancer in 2017 This was his pride and joy and he had just finished a full restoration of the car the year before. It has no track time on it. It is a near flawless car with upgrades for safety and current vintage/ historic racing. Finished in Porsche 027 Guards Red with silver interior and German Red basket weave upholstery on the seat as used in early porsche race cars. It is a Legal Formula Vee engine from the Solex 28 PCI Carb to the Jet hot coated Headers It is finished with a very high attention to detail and the bodywork has an excellent finish There is some paint lift under the brake pedal assembly which is only noticeable when the front bodywork is removed, a few scratches under the front nose, probably from loading on a trailer and a scratch that has been brush touched on the narrow engine cover behind the driver on the left side.
Upgrades include: Removable Momo Steering wheel, ATL fuel cell, Wilwood adjustable pedal assembly and clutch master and slave assembly. FIA/LED tail/rain light, Reverse Lockout , Remote battery jump connection in rear, OMP competition harness with arm restraints. Carbon Fiber dash with new gauges. Custom seat is wider and lowered for seating a larger driver.
There are 4 books documenting the restoration and I am sorting through them to get more info on the car. Any info you may have on it would be appreciated, I believe at one time in was owned by a Don Kearney or Karney of Florida
This would be a great car for your collection and to Vintage Race in historic racing class such as RMVR Monoposto. Would look amazing sitting in the back of a VW Single Cab Transporter Renndienst Truck, Schuco thought so, and so did the Porsche factory.
Or hang some lights and a horn and carbon fiber fenders on it like the "Rocket" by the Light Car Company ( IE: Jay Leno"s Garage ) and drive it on the street, for a fraction of the price, if your not Jay Leno rich .(depending on your local and state laws )
The car will accommodate someone of a larger size and width than the newer cars, and is appreciating in value because of it"s historical significance and rarity.
Update to listing: The body panels on the car came with the car and are believed to be original with the exception of the narrow engine cover strip behind the driver. It was originally Yellow and black when found in the barn.
