Most of the original Teardrop trailers were constructed with materials obtained from World War II surplus markets. The exterior skins were usually made from the aluminum wings of World War II bombers which gave the Teardrop trailers their shiny exteriors. This 1940 home built trailer is 1 of 1 which makes it’s unique. I was told that for it age it’s one of the very first teardrops ever made. This trailer for a fact was constructed using ww2 bomber aircraft surplus. Almost every part on this trailer is aircraft grade aluminum, the rear hatch, body framing, doors and skins with ribs all came from a airplane. The markings aluminum when looked up match from a b-24 bomber. I found this trailer back in 2017 in a back lot of auto shop sitting under a tree. This trailer needed everything gone through. The trailers axle and wheels are from a 1936 Ford original to the teardrop. The frame is steel with original steel bumper. Nothing was changed to the exterior body from original but I did have to do a frame off restoration the original cedar planked floor boards were rotting away in the kitchen area and needed to be replaced. I also took the liberty to move the wall separating the bed area from the kitchen inward because I’m 6’3” and wanted more space for my legs when laying down inside. There is so much to say about this trailer on what I have done, but there is too much to say. All I know is that you won’t be disappointed, this is one of the most interesting teardrops I have seen. A true piece of history! This teardrop you can take virtually anywhere. Very light weight. I went for the theme ww2 bomber throughout the trailer due to founding out its history. I recently added a period correct awning window. I also added an original liberator bomber all aluminum sink that is foot powered and works perfectly! I have taken photos of my restoration process and will be happy to share. Everything on this trailer has been gone through and ready for the open road. Just hook on up to your vehicle and enjoy.
