Vehicle description
This Mazda RX4 RX-4 Wagon is a collectors dream with just the right amount of patina. Comes with hand-written records from the first two owners as well as the original owner"s manual and warranty service schedule booklet to help verify that the 50K miles are ORIGINAL and real!. Original jack still in factory plastic as well as cosmoline-wrapped factory supplied tools in the original pouch!
The car was rescued from a garage where it had sit motionless for over 20 years. The fuel tank was removed and "boiled" then recoated and reinstalled. Fresh fuel lines installed. 5 new tires put on it. Brake system was rebuilt and hydraulic parts and rubber lines replaced as needed and wheelbearings cleaned and repacked. Carburetor was disassembled and cleaned and reinstalled with some new gaskets. Ignition switch was replaced with a proper mazda switch as original plastic support bits had crumbled in the old tumbler. The transmission has NOT been serviced yet. Car will start up and move under it"s own power but I would not classify it as a "driver" until you"ve had the transmission filter replaced (included) and all new fresh trans fluid cycled through it. (Why take a chance with the old stuff?).
The reason you see the interior partially removed is we were preparing to install a custom roll cage but then the project stalled for a few years. The pieces of interior were all carefully removed and all of the pieces are in excellent condition, ready to be reinstalled EXCEPT for the carpeting. Headliner was never touched and is in FANTASTIC condition. Car had dealer installed air conditioning which was removed but all pieces are included. Original radiator is also included and was withOUT leaks but was replaced with an alloy one as shown anyway.
The only rust of note is the bottoms of the front doors (both driver and passenger) which is evident in the pictures. There is absolutely NO ROT in the body and any rust you think you see is superficial. Body sills and wheel splash areas are completely rust free. Again, the only areas of significance are the bottoms of the front doors from water getting past the window wiper seals.
The only other item of note and perhaps slight disappointment is because the car has been sitting again for a while, the carburetor accelerator pump check-balls are stuck again so blipping the throttle when the engine is still cold is actually counter-productive. It needs the an extra splash of fuel or starter fluid to get it to start up and the manual choke cable to be on for an extended period until sufficiently warm. Some extra carburetor gaskets are included for when you are ready to do another thorough cleaning.
Realistically and depending on how handy and experienced you are with cars in general, this is a simple 1-weekend project to get driving again.
California Title is in hand and is free and clear and the car even has current California registration so there are no back fees to worry about if you are planning to keep this car in California. It is also SMOG EXEMPT (HUGE bonus!). The original California Blue and yellow plates were retained and were re-assigned, which is another rarity since they are non-reflective.
I am able to entertain in-person inspections in Escondido, CA 92026 either by yourself or a 3rd party you hire to come out on your behalf. email me to set up a day and time. If you need shipping help, I have a trans-continental private hauler whom I can HIGHLY recommend. I can provide his contact info privately for you to discuss independently with him a shipping quote to fit your needs. If you need loose items secured for shipping, I"m happy to help by putting loose items in some cardboard boxes.
