The M54 3.0 litre engine Roadsters are hardto find, because owners hang on to them. The M54 model engine is widely considered by BMW technicians and ownersto have proven over time to be the most durable BMW engine they’ve evermade. This sports car is very fun todrive and the engine response feels torquey and powerful. Engine runs smooth and quiet at idle. Stand-Out Features These additional upgrade features are uncommon to find in the Z3market place: Sport seat version (sportierdesign, deeper/larger bolsters, better padding). Custom re-upholstered seats, door panels, centerconsole bin covers, and steering wheel trim, using genuine BMW nappa leatherhides, in an eye catching two tone red and black theme. Custom recovered steering wheel with upgradedperforated nappa leather and red stitching. 2-Piece Style 42 Alloy Wheels (Staggered 225 Front, 245 Rear), and haverecently been fully restored and powder coated. Upgrade Details Sport seats, door panel trims, center console lids, and steering wheel trim have been re-upholstered with nappa leather in a red and black theme. Z3’s originally came with two different leather options, both of which were not very high quality and would ‘shine-out’ fairly quickly and become hard and brittle feeling. BMW offers two higher grades of leather in its other cars, Dakota (better), and Nappa (top end). The new custom seat covers for this car were hand cut from genuine BMW Nappa leather hides (one black, one red). Nappa leather is full grain, unsplit, aniline dyed very high quality leather. Replaced Steering Wheel with a Dimitri Maer custom hand-stiched perforated and padded leather Sport Wheel. Dimitri (resides in Germany) takes any original BMW steering wheel you choose, pads it with a thin layer of PPT, and then recovers it using a high quality full grain aniline dyed perforated Nappa leather. Red stitching was used to match the red/black leather theme. Dimitri’s covering and stitching work is expert level perfect, even better than factory. Replaced Clutch Pedal with an upgraded Ron Stygar ‘no maintenance full bushing’ pedal. Stock BMW pedals have a simple nylon split bushing that inevitably stretches out and begins to squeak and groan. Ron re-fabricates original BMW pedals with a lubricated metal bushing. Removed/deleted Clutch Delay Valve (CDV). BMW introduced a simple passive metal valve placed in the clutch hydraulic line starting in the 90’s that was supposed to make clutch engagement smoother, but drivers learned over time had the opposite unintended effect. Removing the valve actually evens out the clutch engagement. Replaced Head Light Bulbs with third generation HIR2 upgraded bulbs. Substantially brighter than OEM bulbs, but they run cool and will not burn the headlight covers (common upgrade issue, as there are many after market bulb models that are brighter, but produce too much heat and burn the acrylic lenses). Recently fully restored all four wheels: The 2-Piece BMW/BBS Style 42 Alloy Wheels were disassembled, old paint sand blasted off, upgraded with powder coated baked-on paint, and reassembled bolts with Locktite. Northwest Wheel Repair (Bend) are experts at wheel reconditioning. BBS makes most of BMWs wheels to their specs. Many drivers agree that BBS makes the best wheels. However, they still originally were only spray painted with an industrial traditional ‘spray-on and let dry’ paint, which eventually fails (spider web cracks, blisters). But in recent years the powder coating method of painting has taken over. The paint is sprayed on in the form of a powder, which is then baked (melted on) at 400 degrees. Powder coating is far more durable than industrial spray paints. These wheels will never degrade. Items NeedingService Oil Level Sensor needs replacement at next oil & filterchange (sensor installed in side of oil pan). Low Oil Light has been coming on and off intermittently, even though theengine oil level is fine. Also, the sensor’sseal into the oil pan is leaking oil slightly. It’s common for the Oil Level Sensor to wear out and eventually needreplacement on BMW engines. Sensor hasnot yet been replaced because there are still 3,000 miles to go before the nextoil change.
