Vehicle description
1971 TR6 National First Place Award Winner from Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) 1998 Fall Meet - Hershey, PA Certification Number W11231 This Triumph TR6 was built in 1971 and was delivered new in America. This classic car has a beautiful signal red (original factory color) paint and a black soft top. A mere 48,502 miles are present on the odometer, which reflects the mileage post restoration. Over the past 32 years I have registered about 475 miles a year or 15,200 miles over that time period. The interior is black upholstery with Smiths and Lucas gauges and a custom wooden dashboard. The 2.498cc six-cylinder engine with manual gearbox and electronic overdrive ensures that this TR6 drives fantastic and very sporty. The journey for this car rebirth began in March 1997 and was completed in August1998. This was a rotisserie frame off the body restoration performed by Harbor Auto Restoration. The entire frame was sandblasted and coated with a rust inhibitor to begin the rebuild. Every small detail was addressed to bring thisTR6 back to concourse level. For example, the sourcing of the original British Leyland AM/FM radio along with the cue ball rubber shift knob which still has the “H” shift pattern on it. You can view all the great restoration work at https:/ www.harbor-auto.com/ . I have babied this TR6 for the past 30+ years and made several upgrades over the years.Below is a list of some key items. Of course the motor was torn down and rebuilt with all new internal parts (pistons, rings, cam, etc. along with anew clutch and transmission gears. All the fluids have been serviced over the years and the motor oil was just replaced this month. The electronic overdrive works in gears 3 rd and 4 th just as it did from the factory. The car comes with lots of extra parts (over $500 worth) that I have collected over the years. The mileage reads 48,500 but since the restoration I have only driven about 15,000.00 miles over the years. The car never sees rain and only goes out for car shows and short weekend rides. Please call Jack with any questions at 954.609.6377. It was the best-seller of the TR range when production ended, a record subsequently surpassed by the TR7. Of the91,850 TR6s produced, 83,480 were exported; only 8,370 were sold in the UK. The frame, engine, running gear, body tub and doors were similar to the Michelotti-styled TR5, (TR250 in the US). The front and rear of the car was restyled by Karmann of Germany, though one source claims the new squared-offK armann tail design was from an unrelated Michelotti prototype. A new removable hardtop was designed in-house. All TR6s were powered by Triumph"s 2.5-litrestraight-6, with the same Lucas mechanical fuel-injection as the TR5 for the United Kingdom and global markets, and carbureted for the United States, as had been the US-only TR250. The TR6PI (petrol-injection) system helped the home-market TR6 produce 150 bhp (110 kW) (152 hp DIN) at model introduction. The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission. An optional electrically switched overdrive operated on second, third, and fourth gears on early models and third and fourth on later ones. Construction was traditional frame. Other features included semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-inch (380 mm) wheels and Michelin asymmetric XAS tires which dramatically improved the handling, pile carpet on floors and trunk/boot,bucket seats, and full instrumentation. Brakes were discs at the front and drums at the rear. A factory steel hardtop was optional, requiring two people to deploy. The dashboard was walnut veneer. Other factory options included arear anti-roll bar and a limited-slip differential. Vehicle Warranty This vehicle is being sold "as is".
