Vehicle description
Vehicle Details Imagine owning a car for over 40 years and knowing every nut and bolt on the car, quite literally. This 1973 Datsun 240Z has had but one owner over the last 41 years! The car is a known entity and that information, when it comes to acquiring a collectable or any automobile, is great information to have! It means that in the last 41 years, everything about this car is known, no guess-work here. The car was acquired by its current owner in June of 1980 and used as a daily driver. In June of 1982 the engine was completely overhauled with all reciprocating parts being balanced. The stock camshaft was replaced with a Datsun competition cam kit (p/n 99996-E1038) The kit includes cam, springs, retainers, valve lash pads, rocker arms and keepers. . Suspension upgrades include Quickor front and rear sway bars, Boge struts, new front and rear wheel brgs and refurbished rear stub shafts. The Z was then used for 4 years. A family came along and the car went into clean, dry storage for 30 years. in 2012 the car was again awoken and restored to its current condition. A professional rotisserie restoration was performed ensuring the original bodywork, frame and panels were returned to their original condition. Every nut and bolt, assembly, line, cable and electrical wire was either reconditioned or replaced. Typical corrosion repair was performed on the cars rocker panels, rear 1/4 panel and rear valance. All body work and repairs were performed while the car was on a frame machine, insuring proper factory dimensions. The numbers matching engine was again, cleaned, inspected and restored to better than original condition. Water temp sensor, Thermostat housing, and thermostat were replaced with NOS parts. The original distributor was retained but the ignition coil was replaced with a MSD coil, MSD box and tachometer converter. The alternator was replaced with a self regulating high amp unit. The fuel rail was refurbished. 1972 carburetors were used as the original 1973 carbs . . well, they sucked. All suspension , steering and drive components were removed, inspected, repaired, replaced or restored to better than original. All suspension links and bushings were replaced using Prothane components and new fasteners. New lower ball joints were installed on the front transverse link assemblies Every nut and bolt, washer screw, seal, boot, cover, etc, etc, etc. A 5 speed 280Z gearbox was also added. . Great gearbox! An Innovate data acquisition system has been installed as well. The car is finished in its original and very rare color combination of Blue over White. The door cards, rear carpet, rear interior trim and dash are all original to the car The dash does have a couple of small repairs but, better original is the thought here. The seat covers, front carpeting and headliner are new. This car was never intended to be a "concours", trailer queen restoration. It was built with passion to be driven and enjoyed, not parked. This is a great car and there is simply no way the car could be reproduced for anywhere near the cars reserve price. Not even close. The car runs and drives beautifully. I will admit the car can be a bit cold blooded, a portion of which I will blame on the crap fuel we are sold. The clutch take-up is both chatter and slip free, brake pedal modulation is good as is pedal feel. The car tracks straight, there is no steering play and virtually no squeaks or rattles. This is one STRONG running 240Z. When the motor comes up on the cam , the car sounds fantastic. . makes ya smile. . happy bidingThe car is located in Spokane Wa and is airport close.
