Having owned Audi"s for 30 years now, this V10 S8 is without question my absolute favorite car. It"s a rare combination of everything a driver could ever want. This vehicle is loaded with every upgrade the S8 had available in this model year. With premium Valcona leather seating, carbon fiber and aluminum trim, it evokes memories of the most luxurious spaces. A legendary 450 HP V10 engine roars to respond but is bridled by huge disc brakes. The stiffer sport chassis and racing suspension keep the vehicle securely planted to the road. Then throw in one of the best sounding factory audio systems by Bang & Olufsen (A $7800 option), and every drive becomes a highly enjoyable experience. I found myself making excuses to just take this car out for drives. The S8 is admired for its reliability, making it one of the best values in an ultra-luxury, super sedan.
History - I purchased this vehicle after the original owner traded it into a dealer in 2015. It"s been garage kept and run with synthetic oil since day one. In my nearly 6 years of ownership, I"ve had to replace brakes, tires and the battery. I enjoy maintaining it and if somethings not perfect, I get it fixed. Every button, light, feature, latch and control works perfectly.
Why is this car unique? - Audi used its highly reliable V10 engine from this car in the R8 Supercar as well as the Lamborghini Huracan and Gallardo. Its produced a bit too much torque so the Lambo"s are only a 5l, where the S8 is still a 5.2l. After 2009 you can only get this engine in the R8 and Lambos. Missing in newer S8"s are the beautiful exhaust notes of the 10 cylinders singing in unison. The entire Spaceframe is aluminum as are all body panels. This lightens the car significantly. This S8 has some of the best looking 20" wheels Audi ever produced (IMO). Inside are massive Brembo disc brakes mounted to full adjustable track ready suspension. With the turn of a knob, you can go from floating down the highway in absolute "comfort" mode to aggressively lowering the car 3 inches and feeling the tires grip the road into every turn. While many cars have a "sport" mode, dropping the shift lever in the S8 releases the beast unlike any car I"ve owned. Despite being wrapped in performance, the interior is heavily sound dampened, including the extra thick windows keeping you in a peaceful cocoon of safety. This car was made to drive the Autobahn at 120 MPH in complete control and safety, while enjoying every nuance of a beautiful symphony.
Why this is my favorite Audi? - The interior lighting is classic Audi red. This mimics aircraft instrumentation to preserve night vision. Newer vehicles have a blinding array of screens and colors. Control of every feature is at your fingertips, from the radio volume knob to lighting controls. Its just works like it should and isn"t lost in a menu. When you get in, the seats, mirrors, driver controls and last song begin without a thought. This car knows you and gives you what you want everytime. The real Valcona leather still smells new! I love the smell of luxurious leather and this is one of the few cars where it never goes away. The seats are soft to the touch yet firm and comfortable with a ton of adjustments for even the longest drive. Its amazing the modern features this car does have, from adaptive cruise, to rain sensing wipers and lane departure warning. It may be a high-performance machine, but it"s surprisingly civilized and safe at the same time.
Condition - The car has never had a smoker or a pet inside (Since I"ve owned it anyway). My kids are grown and it"s probably never had a car seat installed. Car has never been in an accident or had body work done. The original paint has a professionally applied ceramic coating and looks fantastic. The interior is free from stains, tears and damage. The seats, carpet and trim is excellent. ALL mechanical features work like day one. The engine runs perfectly and strong. No rust for 2 reasons. I live in FL and its all aluminum. Here"s the nit picky stuff. There are some tiny chips, like any car that driven would have, on the front of the hood. The driver cup holder door works, but may stick upon tapping to open it occasionally. Tap it again and it opens. The wheels are original and, while beautiful, have a few small curb rashes. Tires are about 50%. I have a great source for tires and I"m happy to share it with the new owner.
Additional items of note - Includes a hard to find 160GB iPod music server installed in the glovebox tray. Its the best model with the audiophile grade Burr Brown DAC inside. Simply put, no Apple product after this iPod even sounds close in audio performance. It"s loaded with music, but it"ll be yours and you can add a lot more using your iTunes account. It integrates nicely with the Audi system and you"ll forget it"s even there. Original manuals are in the glovebox as are the additional media system connecting cords with Apple lightning interface cable. The heavy Audi rubber floor mats are installed and in very good shape. The carpet is excellent throughout by the way. Includes 2 original remote keys.
There is a bolt-on aftermarket X-pipe kit available for this S8 that removes the 2 center resonators and makes it sound exactly like a Lamborghini as well as a chip adding about 50HP and a turbo kit that will take it near 700 HP. These are not installed or included, but just in case you need more.
You might be wondering why I"m (painfully) letting go of my favorite car. It"s a long story, but need to simplify my life at this time.
