I have owned over 70 cars in my lifetime, and this Porsche Cayman is hands-down the absolute best car I"ve owned. It is beautifully built (well, it IS a Porsche) and drives and handles perfectly. With the "frunk" (front trunk) plus the ample storage space under the rear hatch, this car has oodles of room for long trips. We"ve been able to put two Hartman full size suitcases in the Frunk, and have lots of room left for other travel stuff in the rear. We have taken it on long trips to East and West coast, and it has proven to be incredibly comfortable for long stretches.
Sadly, at age 76, I find it not as easy to get into and out of this incredible road machine, and so must reluctantly let it go to a younger driver who can appreciate it as my wife and I have.
We"ve owned and driven this car for 3 years, and it has been uncannily maintenance free. Our only maintenance expense was oil and filter change (about 1,000 miles ago), new Michelin pilot tires (also 1,000 miles ago), and replacement of front rotors and pads (wasn"t yet needed, but as a precaution). I do have new rear rotors in hand for the new owner, but they"ve not been deemed ready yet for replacement.
This car had an incredible, $2,000+ sound system install by the previous owner, replacing the trouble-prone, expensive, and low-featured OEM unit. The system includes a powered subwoofer professionally installed in the rear passenger-side corner (see pic), looking for all the world like a factory installation. It also includes a modern Sony XAV display unit, which also is installed to appear as OEM. The Sony has all the modern features, including Android Auto and Apple Car Play. There is bluetooth, and of course a microphone for hands-free phone conversation.
Also included is a high-end radar detector, with small remote in-cabin display nicely integrated into the center column, and a behind-grill receiver.
This car needs absolutely nothing except a new appreciative owner. Honestly, you could slap and new car sticker on the window, and the casual observer could believe this car just came from the factory, it is that nice.
A front transparent chip protection film was installed by the previous owner, and it has functioned well to protect the front of the car from road rash, and is holding up well. Of course, there are a few very minor chips and abrasions around the car as would befit a car of this vintage, but it presents itself in all of its stunning red glory.
The paint finish itself is absolutely in like new condition. Of course, photos can"t convey this, but this car exhibits absolutely no fading, cracking, or checking anywhere. During our ownership, it has always been garaged, and has NEVER sat outside, not even for an overnight!
The interior is stunning, as depicted in the pictures. Carpeting and leather seats are without flaw. There are a few minor chips in some of the plastic surrounds (why didn"t Porsche mold these with through-color, rather than a thin coating on top of a black substrate?)
Mechanically, the car seems perfect. no gear or bearing noise, perfect no-slop shifting of the glorious manual transmission, and clutch takeup smooth and effortless. The rack and pinion steering provides incredible precise and stable performance.
Yes, there are always a number of used Caymans available for sale at any given time, but this beauty checks all the boxes for superlatives and stands out against any competition: Beautiful Porsche Red (do you REALLY want another boring silver car?), Caramel leather interior, low, low mileage, manual transmission, upgraded sound system and dash display, and new Michelin tires. There is really no comparison. Although we"ve only driven this car less than 2,000 miles per year, it does get regularly exercised. it has been our designated "date night" car, and every time I take it out I feel like I"m allowing myself a very special treat!
As always, I have tried to describe this car as honestly as I can, but I do encourage prospective buyers to initiate a personal inspection (or a third party inspector), and I"ll be happy to cooperate for that. I offer a no questions asked 100 refund policy but ONLY up until the vehicle actually leaves my possession. Obviously after that, I have no control over what a new owner might or not do with the vehicle, and therefore at that time (Buyer"s possession or to shipper), I can offer no further warranty nor any refund. I"m happy to work with a buyer"s shipper to insure it gets loaded properly and safely on its way to the new owner.
