Vehicle description
2006 Porsche Cayman S. I am the third owner of this lovely sports coupe, the previous two were in Central Florida and they both garaged the car. I kept the car in suburban Philadelphia and commuted 23 miles each way to Fishtown in it. Each of them put about 60,000 highway miles on the car and in the past two and a half years I added 30,000 highway miles. The title is clean, in my name, and in hand.
This Porsche is stock with the exception of a factory short shift kit, shift cable ends and a brake master cylinder from a PCCB 997. This is an original Porsche part that bolted right in and works wonders to improve the Cayman"s brake feel and pedal travel. The shifter cable ends are billet aluminum and make a huge difference in shifter feel. They do not transfer extra vibration through the shifter. There are no leaking door or hatch seals, and the window motors are snappy. The windows do not get caught when you open the door.
This car is in lovely condition and is a lot cleaner than most of the lower mileage Caymans and Boxsters I"ve seen. There are no cracks in the dash or doors, no holes in the carpet, the seats are in excellent condition with no rips or areas wearing thin. You may want to replace the original floor mats. Obviously there is no rust on the car as these cars do not tend to rust, least of all Florida cars that were garaged most of their lives. The car runs and drives great, and handles amazingly. The transmission feels like new. The clutch is very light and has no issues. The tires wear evenly and the suspension feels great. The PASM sport setting works as it should, though I don"t use it much since it makes the car very stiff. The sport button for the engine increases the throttle response greatly. I do use that.
Some recent work done in my ownership: Front upper strut mounts and strut bearings (148k miles) New clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel bolts, rear main seal (131k miles) New clutch slave cylinder (131k miles) New brake master cylinder (PCCB) (145k miles) Spark plugs and ignition coils (130k miles) Brake rotors (~140k miles) Shifter and billet aluminum shift cable ends (132k miles) Water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt (150k miles) Rear tires (135k miles) Inner and outer tie rods and boots (148k miles) Washer bottle pump and all seals (145k miles) Recent engine and cabin air filters Oil and filter changes every 5k miles on the dot, the last one at 150k. I use mobil1 0W40 synthetic. New front windshield the week before I bought the car, apparently in Florida your insurance is required to cover windscreen replacement so the previous owner had it done as a courtesy. He was a Porsche club member and so am I. I also have all the receipts from the previous owner who always had the car serviced at Bert Smith Porsche in St. Petersburg. I do not have receipts from the first owner.
The bad: The paint has quite a lot of rock chips from being driven on Florida and Pennsylvania highways its entire life. They don"t show too bad in photos because the car is silver and so is the aluminum of the hood. I have included detailed photos with the clarity cranked up to make it easier to see the chips. There is also a large scuff through the paint under the right headlight on the bumper where I was reversed into by a person who was parallel parking. The bumper and hood would need to be repainted if you want this car to be more of a show car than a daily driver. There are also scuffs on the rear "bumperettes" to the right and left of the license plate. These can be easily removed and repainted. The rest of the paint on the car is in very good shape with no peeling or fading. The vinyl chip guards in front of the rear wheels need to be replaced. There is a sizeable rock chip in the front window. It has passed inspection twice in PA and has not grown since it was chipped two years ago. The driver door lock cylinder spins freely. This means that if the battery dies and the doors are locked you won"t be able to get into the car. I only recently discovered this problem and have included a replacement lock actuator to make it right. It is held in with a simple circlip and can be replaced by a DIYer. The brake pads are at the end of their life. I have included a new set of Brembo brake pads and wear sensors. The rotors have about 10,000 miles on them and have tons of life. In cold weather, the stereo makes a strange crackling noise and then doesn"t work until the whole car is warm. I have checked a dozen times and there is no water in the frunk where the factory amp is located. I have no idea why it does this. The wheels have scuffs and could stand to be repainted, though they are straight and true. The CV boots are shot, though the joints themselves don"t make any noises and feel fine. They should be replaced anyway I think, since they are probably original to the car. The mounts for the rear taillights have cracked in the past. I repaired them with epoxy and they have had no problems since but you should know about it if you"re going to buy the car. The detailer discovered a nail in one of the rear tires, but it doesn"t seem to be leaking. I have marked the tire near the nail with a yellow marker.
In short this is a very well taken care of Cayman S that is like new in most ways and only needs a few things to be perfect. This car is an excellent daily driver and has made many 5 and 6 hour road trips to Pittsburgh and Watkins Glen NY, and in my ownership has never once had an engine or drivetrain fault, except for one flat tire. It has had the most expensive maintenance items take care of very recently, namely the clutch/flywheel, water pump, RMS, coils and brake rotors, and the tires have plenty of life. It has never been on a track and has only ever been used for commuting, there is no period in its life where it sat unused, and no period where maintenance has lapsed. I know this car inside and out as I am a Porsche mechanic who did almost all of the work myself, so PLEASE message me if you have any questions or need more photos of anything. If you are ready to love and care for it the way it has been treated under its first three owners then please only bid what you are willing to pay. You are responsible for pickup and I can help arrange shipping at your expense. Thanks for looking and bidding.
