Vehicle description
I am the second owner of the vehicle. The first owner put 7880 miles on it and I purchased the car from Honda North in Danvers, MA in November of 2001. I have been the only driver of the vehicle for the past 18 years and it now has about 137,000 miles. It has been a great car but I rarely drive it anymore and it has a few problems so I"m ready to let it go. I have taken pride in this car and have enjoyed owning it for a long time.
What the car has going for it: * Nearly new tires - only put on about a year ago and have less than 3000 miles wear. * Entirely new exhaust system from the front catalytic converter to the tailpipe including replacement of both catalytic converter replaced in January 2017. I have an extra, brand new Bosal 0991119 Catalytic converter that will go with the car. * Engine is strong and the transmission is good to go. No 2nd gear synchro problem. * Brakes are good and the PA inspection is good through 11/19. I suspect it will easily pass inspection this year since I keep the car in good condition. * Excellent fuel economy. * Brand new 12V battery replaced last month.
Aftermarket add-ons * Dealer installed AC (If you run the VIN you"ll see it was originally a non-AC car). Blows cold! * Honda S2000 Antenna * Double DIN conversion with Sony XAV-AX 100 Apple CarPlay/Android Audio stereo. (Bought the double-din interior panel from Japan and converted the dash from single-din to double-din. I have the single-din panel and it will come with the car.) * Eclipse 36401 amplifier under the passenger seat. It powers all four component speakers with tweeters and the subwoofer * Four Polk EX series II 6.5" component speakers * Kenwood Sirius receiver (haven"t used in over 15 years but it"s in there) * Two USB charging ports in addition to CarPlay/Android Audio input. * Original ShoeBox sub with JL Audio 8w3-v2 subwoofer * Rostra cruise control (Yeah - a manual with cruise!) * Metal brake and clutch pedals made by Sandusky Bay Metals for this car * 50 square feet of BQuiet Extreme sound deadener on floorboards, doors, and rear compartment area. * IMA cutoff switch * IMA force recharge switch * Voltage meter * NOCO Genius 12V battery charge meter on dash with 5W solar panel to keep 12V battery recharged * IMA grid charger * Wet Okole seat covers
About the IMA system I replaced the failing battery pack with a Bumblebee Battery replacement in July 2015. The battery pack has since begun to have problems. It pops 1447 and 1449 codes. Reset the codes and it"s good to go. Unfortunately the Bumblebee Battery is out of warranty now. I have an IMA grid charger that comes with the car that works well to get the batter running correctly again. You can also disable the IMA system all together and drive the car with just the 3 cylinder engine as a non-hybrid. In all, the IMA is not reliable anymore which is partially why I"m selling the car - mostly I just don"t drive it much
What else in wrong with the car? * Small exhaust leak somewhere in engine compartment. You can smell the exhaust in the car when you drive if the climate control is not on recirculation. On recirculation it"s not bad. I"m not sure where the problem is but it"s probably not a big deal. * The car has been hit a few times. It was backed into and the hood, one headlight, and the radiator were replaced along with a few other repairs by the dealer"s body shop. Someone also hit the side of the car doing damage to the driver"s door. I replaced the door with a door from another Insight at a junkyard and it works perfectly but the lock wasn"t swapped out. I have the entire original door with its lock and you get it with the car (if you have a way to take the door because it probably won"t fit in the car). Swap the lock out if you want. The car has keyless entry so it"s never really been a problem at all. * It has always been outside so the paint isn"t great. There are very few cosmetic problems and it looks awesome as compared to other 2000 Insights.
