I purchased this car in 2012 with 102k miles. It only comes out for the months of June, July and August and back in the garage it goes. It"s originally a Texas car, not sure when it made it to New York, but it has never seen snow. No rust at all.
The engine is stock with 6spd trans and it runs awesome. This is one of the funnest cars I"ve ever driven. Runs and drives perfect, still very tight handling. It comes with Dinan Mufflers which give it a great rumble
It has a custom painted VIS Raing Sports full carbon fiber hood http:/ www.visracing.com/newcatalog/Bmw/5-Series/1997-2003-5-Series-E39/Hood-318/1997-2003-Bmw-5-Series-E39-4Dr-Gtr-Carbon-Fiber-Hood.html , with carbon fiber kidney grills which sets this off from other M5s.
Xeon angel eyes headlight kit installed.
New Master Cylinder and front brakes last summer.
Air Conditioned serviced in early July
Cold Air intake, brand new in the box, never installed.
Software and BMW 20pin to OBDII adapter and USB cable to connect to ECU via Virtualbox Virtual Machine image, which I will provide via file share.

Needs attention
This M5 has some of the common issues of the E39 generation
- Rims are flaking, though there are no rash marks.
- Inside rear view mirror and passenger mirror glass have become discolored
- Instrument Cluster becomes pixelated as the outside temperature increases. I have the replacement ribbon to correct this, just have not been able to find the time to install it.
- Seats are faded but no tears
- Radio/GPS display is out, though radio works. My next purchase was going to be an Android Head Unit and new speakers. Stock sound system is pretty poor.
- OBD connector under dash has not been able to link up with NY State emissions computer
- Front tires have cracking in the tread line
- Windshield washer sensor appears to be defective.
- Scratch on driver door. (see pic)
- Rear Shade arms stuck in upright position
