1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Syncro 4X4. 2 owners since new. LOW 113k miles! Last owner owned it for 29 years! All maintenance are up to date and EVERY single service record/receipt since new included with sale including original purchase contract from 1988. Original California van purchased new in Huntington Beach, California and has resided in California since. Extremely well maintained and owned by enthusiasts. Ready to travel cross country! Car cover included.
2.1L VW stock motor. 5-speed manual transmission (4-speed + low range). Roof rack with custom fabricated aluminum diamond plate floor. Rear seat folds flat into large bed. Original middle seat not installed but included with the sale. Gary Lee spare tire carrier and roof ladder. Exterior repainted military olive drab. Air Conditioning in great working order with engineered vents straps holding the vent/tunnel cover to prevent falling. This was a common problem on these models. 15” Rhein wheels (original wheels were 14”) - VW OEM came on So. African Transporters. LT215/75R15 BFG T/A tires. Front lower grill - VW OEM came on So. African Transporters.
Recent work completed: all CV joints repacked and new Rockford boots, new stainless coolant distribution unit, new coolant expansion tank, flush coolant system, flush brake system, all new fan belts, new oil & filter.
Work done in the last 16k miles:
A/C condenser, drier, & hoses replaced. Replaced coolant pipes (front to rear). Heavy duty off-road coil springs & Old Man Emu shocks x 4 which lifted vehicle 1” for better travel. Audi based front “Big Brake” kit – larger diameter vented disk rotors & braided stainless brake lines. 4WD front de-coupler kit (While most Syncro owners prefer to operate in AWD, it"s nice to have the option to disconnect to 2WD if necessary. The decoupler kit enables you to disengage the front driveshaft by pulling a knob on the dash to disconnect the driveshaft and the Viscous Coupler (VC) from the transaxle. The decoupler is a safety device that allows the option to disconnect the drive to the front wheels)
