Vehicle description
I am selling this car for my father who has been an avid collector for over 40 years. Since he could not purchase an original GNX, he decided to build this tribute. I have driven this vehicle numerous times and it is truly representative of the “way cool 80’s”.
As in the case of most collectors, my father spent far too much money on this project. I have various receipts for parts and labor totalling nearly $60,000.00 invested to date.
The vehicle needs a paint job because it still retains its original factory black paint. As you will see in the photos, there are scratches and checking of the finish. Even with those paint flaws, this car still looks great from 10 feet away. My father chose NOT to paint the car, because he thinks the patina surface is representative of Detroit’s paint quality back in the day.
Here is what has been done to the vehicle since he purchased it in 2012:
Complete engine rebuild by Superior Automotive Engineering in Placentia, CA for a total of $14,967.53 was spent on this alone. A complete GNX rear suspension was installed on the vehicle at a cost of nearly $11,000.00 (I’m trying to locate the receipt for this purchase, however you will see the finished product in the photographs.) GNX wheels and brand new tires Complete replacement of all shocks, brakes, and chassis steering components Rebuilt transmission Replaced seat covers and carpet Powder coated numerous parts Replaced windshield Completely new exhaust and catalytic converter Custom soft cotton car cover
I recently (February 2019) drove this vehicle from Monterey, CA to Anaheim, CA (400 miles) and the trip was a breeze. I was able to truly enjoy the 3.8 liter turbo and the power that is produced from the V-6 engine. Not to mention, I received many compliments and thumbs up from several drivers on the highway.
For those that may be interested in purchasing the vehicle who also live in California, it is worth noting that this vehicle recently (December 2018) passed its smog check. I sincerely encourage any interested party to come inspect this car so that you can form your own opinions or directly address any concerns.
