Vehicle description

Everyone Loves a car with a story, so here is the story of my 1987 Buick Grand National: I originally ordered it on Feb. 27, 1987. All GNs had to be special ordered in order to buy one. I waited patiently and around May a GN came into my dealership. I contacted them to see if it was mine and they told me no but its available because the original buyer backed out. This car was vin 1G4GJ1173HP440175. If anyone has this car I got some stories for you. LOL Being a 20 year old kid and tired of waiting for my car I told them I would take it even though it did not have all the options of the one I ordered. I took possession of it on 5/21/87. On the 7 th day with 711 miles on it a 71 year old gentleman in a flower truck made a left turn into me as I drove through an intersection. The accident did $8000 damage to the front of the car. I was upset and contacted the dealer asking if my original car was still coming in, they said yes it was. I told them to put my name on it. The plan was to repair this one and sell it and buy my originally ordered car. Things didn’t go as planned and I ended up with two GNs from 1987 to 1988. During this time I was driving the first one while the second sat idle. I had an overzealous landlord decide to paint the foundation on the house with a Wagner power sprayer with my second GN in the driveway. Needless to say he covered the entire car with overspray. This was in the summer of 1987, I ended up getting the entire car repainted. Didn’t feel this was a bad thing because GMs paint quality wasn’t the best to begin with. This car had crazing on the sail panels and really thin and cracked paint in other areas. Paint still looks good I would give it a 8.5 out of 10 I put 18,000 miles on the first one before finally selling it. I did a lot of street racing and stupid stuff with that first GN in the process of destroying my driving record. Meanwhile I kept my second one with barely any miles on it. So with a suspended license I tucked it away in a garage and forgot about it. It was put up on blocks, fresh oil and the gas tank was drained by jumping the fuel pump relay and pumping the fuel out of fuel rail. Over the years I would drive it every now and then putting a few hundred miles a year. At least a tank full of gas a year so I could park it for the winter with fresh fuel. Around 2004-2005 it did go back to Buick for a recall on the brake switch. Buick honored the recall with no questions. This brings me to Jan 2019 when I decided to sell it. I first had a new headliner installed do to the fact the foam used in the original deteriorated due to age. I then turned to the bumper fillers that also deteriorated due to age. I purchased them from G Body Parts because they are the best repros in the business. I had a body shop paint and install the new bumper fillers and also totally detail the exterior. Believe it or not, on the way home from the body shop I woman cuts me off and I rear end her. Damage was minimal. The bumper, header panel and right headlight assembly. These are the last pics shown. I sourced all NOS or excellent OEM parts to repair the damaged pieces. I have receipts for these pieces. But this accident has given this GN a dirty Carfax. Other then what was replaced to the miner accident the only things not original to the car from GM is: Tires, I do have the originals but only recommend for someone showing the car. They are too old to safely drive on. Brake fluid and brake accumulator , had it flushed twice. The last time in Dec of 2019 when a NOS accumulator was installed. Oil and filter for obvious reasons Battery has been replaced a few times Headliner and bumper fillers mentioned earlier Antifreeze, have flushed the system a few times over the years Other then what I mentioned everything else is original. Every belt, hose, wire etc is how it came from GM in 1987. I know there are a few low mileage GNs out there but how many are “original” one owner?
