Vehicle description

A great survivor from the peak of Mercedes-Benz quality, this 380SL convertible has been in my family for over 20 years - most of it in a closed garage beneath a car cover. The books and records indicate that the car was sold new in Ontario, Canada with the original owner moving the car to his second home in the US shortly thereafter. The car starts, runs, shifts, and drives as it should with quiet, smooth V8 power. Paint, fit, and finish in near-perfect condition. Leather interior also in perfect condition. Car has removable steel hardtop with glass rear window and a second fabric convertible top with plastic rear window. Included in sale are the original tool kit, original first aid kit, original books and records, and garage ceiling hoist for one-person removal of the steel hardtop. The car has three minor issues: first, there is a small, quarter-size hole in the fabric top which has been patched. Not a great patch, but the top remains weather-tight if you get caught in the rain with the top down. Second, there is a small, 3" donut-shaped imperfection in the rear-deck finish where a magnetic antenna base was attached (see photo). I believe this would buff out easily enough. Third, while there is a clean Carfax report (no wrecks, damage, or title issues) an erroneous "Mileage Discrepancy" is noted. This stems from when the car was converted from its original Canadian km speedometer/odometer to US mileage, and the kilometers were mistakenly reported as miles. Service records from the local Mercedes dealer, however, support the fact that the car had approx 45,000 miles on it in 2001, when it was placed in storage. The car was driven very infrequently after that and at some point the odometer stopped working at 45590 miles. When the car was removed from storage earlier this year, I changed the oil and filters, replaced the muffler, and have driven it about 200 miles. The car"s overall excellent condition supports the fact that it has approx 46,000 miles total. All gauges operate correctly and indicate normal functions (temp, oil pressure, etc). You can see the correct readings in one of the photos, which was taken when the car was running. The AC has been converted from R12 to R134a and blows cold. The cruise control functions correctly, as do both clocks, the original Becker Gran Prix radio, and the power antenna. The Michelin tires are good and hold pressure, but are old and should be replaced for safety reasons. The original spare tire has never been on the ground. The original Mercedes carpet floor mats and trunk mat show slight wear, consistent with the car"s age, but are entirely usable and look fine. The car"s leather upholstery is perfect. Please email questions and I will answer to the best of my knowledge. Additional photos available, but please specify particular part(s) of the car you would like to see. Car is located near Memphis TN and prospective buyers are encouraged to inspect the car. PayPal accepted, as are cashiers checks after they have cleared. Non-refundable $500 PayPal deposit due within 48 hours of sale, full payment due within 7 days. Thanks for looking.
