Vehicle description
T his 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300TD VIN# WDB1231901F050442 is a European-market example that was acquired as a non-running project in 2015 by the seller, who has since installed a Chevrolet small-block 350ci V8 fitted with a Weiand 144 supercharger and paired with a Turbo Hydra-matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission. The car is finished in Diamond Blue Metallic over Beige fabric, and additional modifications include aftermarket 15″ BBS Mahle, a Proform 750-CFM carburetor, QA1 coil overs, a B&M shifter, a custom dual exhaust system, air conditioning, an aftermarket stereo system, a fuel cell, and more as detailed below. Service in September 2020 consisted of replacing the steering rack and suspension bushings. The seller states that the body has been refinished in its factory shade of Diamond Blue Metallic (355U) and is equipped with US-spec bumpers and sealed-beam headlights with yellow fog lamps. Equipment includes an aftermarket hood, chrome roof rails, a flat grille badge, window tint, and a rear window wiper. Wear is noted around the fuel door. 15″ BBS Mahle are wrapped in Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires. The factory self-leveling suspension has been replaced with QA1 coil overs, and braking is handled by drilled and slotted rotors. The steering rack and some bushings were recently replaced per the seller, who states an alignment was also performed.
The cabin is trimmed in Beige fabric (055) with color-matched door panels and carpets along with Zebrano wood trim. A custom Classic Auto Air air conditioning system has been added, along with a B&M shifter, flip-out Kenwood head unit with aftermarket speakers, a Lanzar amplifier, and a subwoofer mounted in the spare tire cover. A push-button ignition button replaces the standard key unit, and a crack is noted in the dash around the passenger-side speaker grille. A custom fuel cell has been added below the cargo floor panel, and the battery has been relocated to the spare tire well.
The original 3.0-liter OM617 turbo diesel inline-five was reportedly seized when the vehicle was acquired by the seller, who removed the engine, refinished the bay, and installed a Chevrolet small-block 350ci V8 that has reportedly been bored .30 over. A Weiand 144 supercharger was added, along with a Proform 750-CFM carburetor, 202 Fuelled cylinder heads, MSD ignition, an aftermarket radiator, a fuel pressure regulator, and polished valve covers. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Turbo Hydra-matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission fitted with a shift kit and B&M stall converter. A custom dual exhaust system with electronically-controlled cutouts has also been fitted.
