For sale is a 1983 C10 Scottsdale 6.2 diesel I am the 3rd owner, the first 2 being father and his son so it stayed in one family until recently! It has around 85k BOX A miles! the title says 80,340 box A, new cluster was installed around 82,000 and now has 3,194 on it. The son put in Dakota Digital gauges and threw out the original, but I sourced a correct diesel cluster with 85,xxx miles on it should the new owner choose to go back to original guages.
This truck is in very nice, mostly original shape! The black paint is all original, with the silver resprayed at some point. The bed is in immaculate shape for a truck this year, with only a couple small dings in the floor, none in the tailgate, sides or head panel! The truck had a classic camper and very thick bed mat in it since new. The camper conveys with the sale if the buyer would like it! (Shown in last picture) This truck is the nicest driving old truck I"ve ever owned. It has no play in the steering wheel, drive smooth and quiet and has great power/torque with the 6.2. This 6.2 runs strong and is no dog. It has a 700r4 and a 3.73 rear gear and cruises highway speeds great. It stops very hard.
The interior has an older reupholstered seat, new dash pad, dakota digital gauges and a retrosound radio. The original door panels and kick panels have been redyed with SEM color coat, and the original vinyl floor mat remains. It is not perfect and could be replaced to complete the interior, but it is in pretty good shape.
Exterior has new trim (silverado style) and has been coated with penetrol. It is an oil based paint additive that gives a protective glossy coat and beads up water but is not permanent like clear coat. My application is not perfect with a couple runs and some lint in areas despite using a tack cloth. . still looks great and if you prefer the look untouched it will bake off in the sun over time. .
New parts include: Injectors, injection pump, shocks, tires, brake pads, high torque starter from a 6.5 and more I am probably forgetting.
Rust: One of the best parts about this truck is how little rust it has. It is nearly rust free save for the one spot behind the driver wheel well and a little on the front inner fenders (Always rust even in AZ). The floor boards of this truck are perfect, as are the rockers and cab corners. A little bit of scale starting at the door seal, no holes. Happy to send detailed pics of all areas of concern!
The body as you can see is also very straight with only one small dent and maybe a couple dings. This is a very nice, mostly original example of a squarebody C10, in desirable black with nice patina. It drives great, and has an updated interior. It is not perfect though, and has its small quirks. The 6.2 runs amazing, though it smokes a little (white smoke, not headgasket I checked with block test fluid) and takes a bit to start below freezing, thought the high torque starter helps and it does always start after a few attempts. From what I read, these are common quirks of the 6.2 and could probably be remedied, I haven"t bothered as it still is a great driver as is.
Like I said, this 6.2 is no dog and after owning one I am quite a fan, it has more drivable torque/acceleration than similar era smogger 350, esp 305 and it sounds very cool. Even if you are not a fan, if you live in California you know the diesel title means you can swap any engine you want and avoid emissions!
