1981 Ford F-100 Short Box Pickup 300 Six, 4 Speed. AT, PS, Power disk brakes, 2 Tank
Here is a 1981 Ford F-100 pickup with the very desirable and hard to find short, wide box It has dual fuel tanks which is unusual in a short box. Both tanks have been cleaned and have new sending units and are totally functional. The body is basically rust free (just light surface rust in a few places) but does have at least two spots with a little bondo, one on the hood and the other on the drivers side rear quarter. This was probably done 20 or 30 years ago. The passenger side door and fender have been replaced with the same parts and color from a 1984 F-150. The odometer reads 17,000 for whatever good that will do you. The seat has cloth upholstery and the dash pad has a cover to hide the cracks.
The newer 300 (4.9 Liter) six cylinder engine (from a 1986 pickup) has tons of torque, is economical, and is easy to work on. It has a new carburetor and has been well maintained. The 4 speed Borg Warner truck transmission is practically bullet proof and has a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing with less then 5000 miles.
The rear end has new brake shoes and wheel cylinders and the master cylinder has low miles as well. The front disk brakes are in good shape. The tires are well used but still have many thousands of miles left on them and a spare tire and the original jack is included.
I bought this truck for two long distance trips of several thousand miles each and it did them without issues. I’ve since bought a ¾ ton long box pickup which will suit me better now. I have a clear title but the registration has expired.
There are NO computers, air bags, automatic head lights, complicated and troublesome fuel injection or emission controls and when you open the hood, you CAN SEE the engine. If you have any mechanical skills at all, you should be able to fix anything that would go wrong on this truck and save the $100 per hour mechanics fees.
