Vehicle description
For Sale - As Is. Purchased this 1988 Land Rover Defender 110 in 2015 while I was stationed in the UK and brought it back to USA in late 2015. On 1 Sep 18 the brakes failed and I had to deploy emergency brake while driving down a steep hill, which caused the vehicle to flip. Brake failure was due to pinhole leaks in brake line inside right front fender in the engine compartment.
The vehicle is RHD and has all original major components. Its engine is the 19J 2.5 TD with approximately 190,000 miles. Prior to the accident the motor ran OK - but it smoked quite a bit at start up. All gears shifted smooth with no issues and there were no other major electrical or mechanical issues that I was aware of.
I am not qualified to determine if any damage was sustained to the frame, but I did not see anything that would indicate as such. The frame looks like it was in decent condition for its age, with apparent surface rus t. Wheels and tires appear OK - front passenger tire was flat a few days after the accident, but when it was delivered to its new location on 28 Sep 18, it was filled and appeared to hold air - that might change. Original color of the vehicle was red, then painted black by the previous owner.
Winch and skid plate have since been removed and are not part of the sale. The driveshaft has been removed from the transfer case, to facilitate ease of towing.
It is currently being stored at a storage facility in middle TN. I highly encourage anyone interested (and has the means) to come take a look.
I was told the vehicle does not need a salvage title by my insurance, but I did have to report it as a total loss to TN. Will figure out how to transfer to winning bidder once I know what state it is going to.
Ebay wouldn"t take the British VIN number - so I had to list it as a 1980. Its in fact a 1988 and its VIN is SALLDHMB7EA336819.
